Concur. Rotopax seems an easier, less expensive solution if needing more fuel on overland trip.

I don't know about" easier" but definitely cheaper...

If this is an expensive swap, I'll just wait until other third party long-range America fuel tanks come out with theirs in early 2025.

At least then you'll have the option of doubling your tank or even more your gas tank capacity

That seems reasonable compared to when I look at how much the tanks cost from long-range America. Yes other tanks would add much more capacity but it would be double or triple the price....

update: It only voids the fuel tank warranty and not the power train. He still has to check on the compatibility of the fuel lines.

I would bet money the hybrid system isn't taking up the space and they chose a smaller tank for some other stupid reason, maybe GVWR related. If we were averaging 23MPG like the Sticker says it wouldn't be bad, but most people are averaging 17-20, then look at MPG while towing, and range can be as low as 150miles per fill up, considering it says 0 miles to empty with 2-3 gallons left in the tank

I am glad you are discussing with him. See if you can tag him on here and maybe he can chime in. Initially the cost seems high, but maybe worth it, having peace of mind carrying more fuel all the time over the life of this vehicle. I am not of same mind set that I could just carry cans of fuel on the sides or back gate. That seems like a real pain in the a** day to day driving, which I would be more concerned about. Road trips late at night etc.

But.. to be honest, at my age, getting out to stretch the legs on a long trip on any highway trip is a welcome change.

I can not find a source for this but remember reading somewhere that Toyota specs their tanks to a specific range. I forgot the number but it was something like the average driver will drive for x number of miles before taking a break or there are x number of miles in remote areas between gas stations. I wish I could find where that comes from but it was the perfect weird stat a bunch o engineers would use when making a decision.

I was thinking of importing a tank from Australia. Does anyone have any more information on this? Alldata/Mitchell doesn't have specs yet (vacuum and wiring diagrams). Is there a Land Cruiser shop manual available?

I had zero twice, one time with 2 gallons and several times with 3 gallons remaining at the pump. I run to zero often because damn tank is so small.

Ed Martin Toyota has produced some really good YouTube videos on the new Land Cruiser and some are certain modifications like leveling and lifting, and swapping out headlights from round to square, as well as other things Toyota. One was called - 35's on the 250 Land Cruiser.

I was on the phone today with Eric Sarjeant the GM, who also produces these videos about the small gas tank issue. He said if he could find someone to volunteer their vehicle and buy the Lexus GX fuel tank, he would make the swap and use it to produce a video about it. Says it would be a fun project to do. Still some specifics to work through he said, but they need a volunteer first before they can invest time to study it. He said the platform is so similar it should be doable.

If interested, I encourage you to reach out to Eric Sarjeant at (317)385-9572. Super nice guy and really well informed about the Land Cruiser. He told me on any given day there are about 20 land cruisers in the shop getting modifications done. Also, given that this is a Toyota dealership, I feel like they will want to maintain the ride and OEM feel on anything that is done there.

Thanks Robbie! Have these been tested for these vehicles? I keep hearing about proper tank pressurization for the Hybrids. Also, how does the computer respond?

In addition to the possible warranty, testing, and software integration issues, it would be helpful to also know any impact to ground clearance. Some larger after market tanks can reduce departure angles or other clearances depending on where they are installed.
