Fuel Tank options for Land Cruiser 250/ GX550

Extended tank = ~160 miles of increased range. Sounds great!

Extra 30 litres/8 gallons would be awesome.

However I think they maybe even bigger news is this proves the existence of an OEM set up with fuel lines and pump and all to accommodate a gasoline/petrol sub tank for the hybrid. .

Imagine using those to hook up to one of these sub tanks!!! 80 Litres!!! (21 gallons) 39 gallons!

Even looks like the current 300 series 87 litre might fit due to lack of Add Blue/DEF conflict they mention. That’s 23 gallons or 41 gallons total!!!!

@Alpha Puppy, Certainly not, ME does not have the hybrid LC version sold here. Except the few models of the hybrid versions marketed here are Camry and Corolla, Highlander, Rest all Toyota models sold here run on gasoline. SUVs have traditionally run on gasoline for years. As, gas is really reasonably priced. For Super 98 Oct., a gallon cost $2.68 here; for the 95 Octane, it cost $2.17. Should everything be hybrid here, they would run out of business🤣

Just saw this on of the many FB groups. Progress!

nice work!

Check this out looks like 16 gallons for aux tank. 34 gallons now we’re talking!

So sorry I had seen a few listed like this one

However look at the specs. Same small tank.

I'm wondering since it's listed for a GX, if the LC struts will interfere with the install, like it does with the main tank.........

Yes, I spoke with the company in the summer of 2024 and they reported that the US arm was waiting for their Australian arm to develop and manufacture tanks for the 250, but they had to wait until they were shipped over to the United States.

At that time, long-range America told me that I should probably expect tank options sometime mid-2025...

I dont know how much of space would you have to take to accomodate the least size of 25-30 Litre tank, and relocate some of the contraceptions currently as the feeder lines to the Hybrid Batt going around I guess. I maybe wrong.

My hope is they would use 3D scan models of both models and design one tank that would work across all models petrol, hybrid, diesel, GX, Prado etc.. That 3D scans technology has become affordable and is used by many of the aftermarket accessory suppliers to design their products for proper fit. I would bet they can share those scan files via CAD or some other electronic design file.

Great photo! Had not seen that one. I think EOD guy posted some photos of the underside of the chassis with the main fuel tank removed. It looks from the photo that those wires pass over the the right side of the chassis where the main tank is. Hopefully they would not interfere with a sub tank on the left side, but exhaust definitely would.

I think you meant "CONTRAPTIONS". :ROFLMAO: 😅
My bad🤣. Fuel Tank Design or Fabrication with such in mind would require much more thought. The Fuel Y supply pipes, between the Main and sub, having dual evaporative control systems, the fuel pressure sensors, the sub tank fuel pumps connecting the main fuel tank assy, leading to high pressure fuel injectors, Fuel tank vent hose, charcoal canister, . The ECM would required to be be reprogrammed or changed to read the sub tank values and interpret on the ODO based on the Temp sensor reading. It would be a humungous job I estimate. Such a tank def not with Aftermarket I would not go that way having a family riding on top.
That would be like asking for seat ejection system build up similar to F-16s or F35s.

Completely agree with your appraisal of the complications. The ejection seat might actually be easier! However, the good news is Toyota has already thought through all of that for the petrol sub tank that they offer in some markets. Therefore, all of those systems should be readily available OEM.
