Quality Control Delays!!

I’ve got deposits at two different dealerships, in two different states for Heritage Blue, Land Cruiser trim level, premium package with 20” wheels.

Got a call from both dealerships stating my VIN was “randomly” selected for quality control.

Coincidence? I will not be playing the lottery today…

Mine still reads... Vehicle is in build phase. Contact dealer to confirm availability date.

Yet dealer says it's in Port?
Ask your dealer for a screen shot of their tracker. That'll be the most current information.

This thread reminds me that about a month ago I had a vehicle train that originated in Tacoma, WA full of Toyota vehicles. Every single autorack was full of Toyota Prius’s (Priii?), Land Cruisers, and GX550s.

Good thing it didn’t derail, you guys don’t want to know what happens to all those cars and trucks in those instances.

My dealer just told me their regional representative said yesterday that my FE will land at the dealership in July. It’s been at the port in Portland since April 5. I’m still not holding my breath.

I’m guessing the specific 56 day hold is when Toyota expects sunroof parts to make it to the Logistics Service Centers for install. That would be the 2nd or 3rd of July, and hopefully a quick install and transport to the dealer after that. Purely conjecture, but that’s what I’m hoping for at this point. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I see mention in the GX forum of having to drop the headliner to make the repair. I’m not sure I’m ok with that, in my experience those plastic clips really only seat 100% perfectly on the first use, but at a minimum would carefully inspect this upon eventual arrival.

I've had the interiors out of my Tacoma's too many times to count. The plastic clips, if you're aware of them and how they are supposed to be reinstalled, have never failed on me reusing them.

For anyone curious how the little clips work......... I've only ever seen yellow and mostly white ones, most of the time the little arrow shaped clip will stay in the metal part of the body panel. If you try and press the trim/molding back into the little clip while it's still in the metal part, it'll break almost every time. The trick is to take a curved pick and unhook one side of the arrow (it'll make sense when you see one installed) and pop it out of the metal, then take the hook and pop out the other side and it'll fall into your hand. Push the clip onto the trim/molding, then press the trim/molding back into the metal part. You can get replacement clips on amazon.

56 days is also just 8 weeks. A nice even round number... It doesn't inspire confidence in the day count.

I was wondering if the quality control holds would affect vehicles being built after the holds took effect? I reserved a LC Premium Package on June 6th and the dealer told me it was going to be built on Jun 7th. Would they have built the fix into vehicles once it was discovered?

Yeah once the fix is finalized it gets added to the production lines

Mine just says this. No estimate of time on it.

My dealership told me the exact same thing.

Take it with a grain of salt, but heard some promising news today when calling around Southern California dealers inquiring about inventory.

Got lucky and was connected with a 20yr+ GM who said he was in a meeting today where they were informed about the QC hold. According to him it did indeed have to do with the sunroof - specifically the wain it drains.

He mentioned a few good things:

1. Toyota knows how to fix it
2. The fix only takes 30 minutes
3. They are checking all cars before releasing
4. They expect all cars to be released within 30 days
5. New builds incorporate the fix and will not be held

Can’t verify that it’s all true, but hopefully it is !

Now the real question is will the new builds that have the drain fix arrive before the QC Hold vehicles even make it to the dealers :ROFLMAO:

In all seriousness, thank you for sharing, I wonder if QC Holds will be lifted in batches, all at once, or one LC at a time. I've got my eye not only here, but a bunch of other groups seeing when someone takes delivery of a mid-tier trim, cause then we'll know.

Thank you for sharing. This comports with the 56 day timeline (from the date of the hold). This issue was dealt with on a Car Care Nut video once. I believe he referred to sunroofs as controlled leaks.

I hope so. Have a trip to Moab planned since last year and was hoping instead of my Tacoma I’d be taking my LC. Need to get it and have time to swap wheels or buy tires for the stocks before the 11th of July.

Maybe if they have no PIO- otherwise that’s still a wait for the new builds
