Skid plate

On the middle crossmember where the front of the transmission skid bolts down, there was a black metal piece on the drivers side that seemed maybe in the way. I unbolted the 2 forward bolts of this piece then just placed the transmission skid over it then rebolted the skid plate through everything. The front skid then overlaps over this area, and it worked out. (Some had mentioned installing the front skid first, then sliding the transmission skid under it..)

I wasn’t sure if I should’ve removed this metal piece, as it seems like if I removed it, there were 2 hooks in the transmission skid that could’ve threaded through some of the holes in the frame crossmember to hold it up. With the plate in place, the hooks were too low to thread anywhere. But, I left the piece as it covers some wires and such on the drivers side.
I think the black metal piece you are referencing is the sway bar cover and it should be removed to install the skid plates. It’s only there on the LC trim.

Assume you are talking about the sway bar disconnect skid.

Turbo8, are you saying that this part number rear diff skid plate will work with the LC250 as you received the kit...or do we need some other type of bracket to make it work? Thanks in advance.

Re: Rear Diff Skidplate, my local parts department said not in system, probably initially reserved for port installs until some future time. Didn't know if same as Tacoma, but I'd guess that black piece in center is different for the LC (since it didn't fit for @turbo8).

Yeah, no go until I figure out if there is another bracket or the trail hunter has a different axle housing\third member. I can't imagine there is a different housing. Truck king youtube channel compared a pro to a trail hunter and I didn't see any mounting points on the pro.

Running into an issue with the black bracket that attaches to the front. It appears to be making contact with some of the bumper bolts…am I doing this wrong?! Plastic piece was removed to show the contact point.

Something is off. The black bracket should get attached to the plastic piece. Check some of the earlier posts in this thread: Skid plate

Also printing the install instructions in color are posted in this thread also helped me a lot.

Yeah I removed the plastic piece temporarily because I couldn’t see what the black bracket was hitting and causing the black bracket to not sit flush. Only thing I can think of is that the bracket is somehow ever so slightly bent incorrectly or maybe got bent slightly in shipping.

Just a thank you to all you folks who contributed helpful install tips and such to this thread. I was able to install the skid plates (to the LC-version) with very little headache or wasted time since so many of you were willing to share. Great community. Thanks again. As far as DIYs go, this was a 1.5 out of 10...easypeasy.

Just wondering if anyone has found the correct pn for the rear diff skid plate?

My 1958 came with the beefier skid plate. I can confirm the key hole bolt holes make oil changes a breeze.

I found this part number: PT228-35242
The listing (at least where I checked it) shows identical details to PT228-35245. Anyone know if that could be it, or are there two different versions for Tacoma?

Edit: never mind, found an eBay listing that says, "DOES NOT FIT THE NEW 2024 -2025 LAND CRUISER HYBRID."

From the videos I've watched on the FE, I believe it has "Toyota" written/engraved on the skid plate. I haven't noticed that on any other model; so I am assuming it is a variant of the other models.

I could be completely wrong on this as well.
Two piece skid plate on LC w/premium. Does not say Toyota on it. Only front skid plate needs to be removed for oil change. There is an access plate for drain plug on second skid plate. FYI

I have a 2025 LC/LC that came with the front skid plate, it says Toyota on it.
