Oil and Filter Change, easy peasy.

I plan to follow oil change intervals every 5,000 miles instead of the recommended 10,000 miles. Is it possible to change the reminder setting to anything other than 10,000 miles when resetting? I hate window sticker reminders as they’re outdated.
I don't think so. When I reset mine is just went to 9999. Didn't notice any other options.

Seems like we might just have to keep it in mind as I plan on changing every 5000 as well. I changed at 1000 so will change at 6000.
 
Just adding to this thread since everyone was so helpful. I haven't changed the oil on a car in over 20 years. So was a little nervous, but generally I think I'm ok with this kind of stuff.

LC trim with the metal small front skid plate and the plastic behind it.

Front metal section is held by 6 x 12mm bolts. 4 straight up and 2 at angles.

I definitely recommend deep sockets as standard-length ones will not be able to get the bolts further in.

Plastic second plate is held up by 2x12mm bolts. There was a surprising amount of rocks and dirt on the inside of this plate.

For the LC trim you have just 8x12mm bolts to remove

The oil filter is under the front plate. Horizontal. Facing forward.

Was ready with the big wrench, but the oil filter was not on too tightly. The oil filter wrench recommended in this thread is perfect. Came off easily

Probably overkill, but they seem solid. For some reason Amazon wouldn't deliver to me in NY, but no issue from Autozone.

Extremely wise advice...especially for those who might be thinking about "saving" money, and as an end result, completely destroying their engine or significantly reducing their engine's life.

Simply not worth the risk(s), as the mechanic demonstrates and definitively talks about throughout the video.

They went back to the metal canisters on this one. It's right in front with nothing around it and it even has a drain spout so it's not messy. The oil looked great. A little darker than new but you could see through it still as it was draining.

Where exactly on the engine is this filter located? Is it accessed from underneath or from the top?
 
It appears the oil filter is the same as the Yaris, which I still have a case of. Glad I didn't give them away when I sold the Yaris several years ago!

If anyone is interested in a magnetic drain plug that is good quality and a direct replacement. It uses the stock crush washer. Also filter mag makes a oil filter magnet that fits the small oil filter. Many of the Amazon or online drain plugs are aluminum and not very durable.

This is information only, not intended to start a debate on magnetic drain plugs and filter magnets. Some people use the oil drain valve, some people use the stock drain plug, some people use a magnetic drain plug. This is personal preference. There is a lot of cheap China replicas out there and makes it difficult to find quality aftermarket parts.


 
Did anyone do an engine flush before your oil change??? Is it necessary or not?
personally, I wouldn't. the risk of leaving a small amount of debris in the residual oil is likely far lower than introducing something with the flush....whatever that is. I'm not commenting on any product in particular. Maybe there's a spectacular flushing product out there.....I don't know. Just in general I would consider that unnecessary, and possibly even harmful if you happen to grab the wrong product.

I like replacing the drain plug with a valve, which make this impossible for me (posted about the valve somewhere above in this thread I think), but the idea is a good one. In the past with my bikes, I've just put a magnet on the oil filter to do this job. something like this would work. I like the idea of just capturing that stuff in the filter as well.

Doing an engine flush is unnecessary, unless the engine has suffered some sort of catastrophic damage or sludged up due to the long term affects of no-oil changes.
 
I just did the first oil and filter change after break-in @ 1,000 miles. It is one of the easiest to change. Everything is easy to access. The skid plate has 6 12mm bolts. 2 of the boltholes are key holes so you just loosen them and it will hold the weight for removal/install.
Once you have the skid plate off everything is easily accessed.
Bonus. The threads on the oil container thread into the oil filler. You just cut the first one's bottom off and you have a funnel.

Cutting the bottle in half and threading it in to make a funnel is just pure genius!!! Glad I saw this before I did it..
 
Any issues with the length of the F133N? Going to do my first change this weekend.

Also, what are everyone's thoughts on using Techron? Or does it not matter with premium gas?
My understanding is that techron is basically a detergent additive, which if you are using premium at top brand gas stations you are already running a fairly high detergent gasoline. Also I believe this is a dual injector engine (I think I heard that) where the second injector is basically spraying (cleaning) the the intake. I use techron in my 1983 car that runs regular gas, but that's the only one.

There would be no benefit to using it in a new engine.
 
First time swapping 0W20. Man that stuff is like water. I would advise anyone who does their own oil to have a high walled pan/bucket or a funnel or something. This stuff hit the drain pan and ricocheted onto my wheel and lower control arm at first. Not fun. Thankfully I had stop towels down there with me.

Other than that pretty easy. Stock skid plate is kind of annoying for how useless it is. Might upgrade that next time I am under there.

I was really tempted to try this. I guess since I have skid plates it’s probably fine. Just have anxiety about messing it up and then leaking oil all over. I guess I could keep the original in the truck in case shit ever hits the fan. 🤔
They are pretty sturdy, and hidden up behind skid plates. I don’t think you will mess it up. Directions for installation come with the Fumoto valves. Just mess With it before you install it, and you will easily figure out how it works. I just put one on my soon to be X GF’s new 2024 Four Runner (which has skid plates), when the engine oil was cold, without spilling more than a few ounces of oil. Then I had her take it for a drive to warm up the oil, and then return, so I could show her how to change her own oil, without the need for a torque wrench, every single time. Like the thread title, Easy Peasy..
