When listening to music and receiving a text message, the stereo doesn’t mute or reduce the volume of the music while the text message is read (or “announced” per CarPlay settings). Also, when sending or responding to a text, same thing. The dad-gum music doesn’t mute or reduce in volume. I’ve done some reading and it seems that this has been a common issue for Toyota. My previous GMC truck just muted the music while sending/announcing text messages. Is this issue happening to everyone else too?
 
Yes, it’s frustrating. I have found that pushing the volume button will mute the radio while using Siri. It’s my only gripe about an otherwise amazing vehicle. Hopefully, they fix it with a software update.

It’s been this way since I had a 2020 4runner Trd pro. it was also this way on my 2022 Lexus. After four years of people complaining about it and no fix, I doubt it will ever get fixed.
 
It is a setting you can change. I will try and look for it. I belive it is in the Toyota App but may be in the settings accessed from the steering wheel.

I have looked everywhere and not found it. Please let us know if you do, but I’m skeptical.
 
Toyota/Lexus are aware of the issue. Temporary half fix is to adjust the volume of the notification while receiving a message or in Apple Maps while it is speaking directions. See if that helps. We’ll have to wait for Toyota and Apple to fix this. Several manufacturers including Honda, Nissan, Toyota have the same issue. I believe it has to do with the enhanced integration in newer CarPlay interfaces on vehicles from what I have read.

Following, as I've searched hi and low...... only thing I have read was turn up the volume when a message comes in and it will stay at that level when the next message comes in. I can't verify this is fact.

It is. That’s how you adjust volume for directions also.
 
This is a terrible oversight, or just laziness in design, particularly if they’ve known about it for years and other manufacturers aren’t dealing w it. I don’t have many gripes with my FE other than this and a few small things. This is aggravating though and should be tended to asap.

This is what I was told at the dealer and to “be patient and await an update.” To be frank Toyotas Apple Car play software is total garbage. It has more glitches than features and doesn’t connect more than half the time. It recently totally packed up on me on a 4 hour trip and I drove on in silence. Well not total silence, just wind noise from the mirrors. The software code must be riddled with errors as it never behaves the same way twice. Google maps audio drops, then it’s back. Amazon Music freezes completely then it says search unavailable. iPhone randomly disables itself as CarPlay device, then readable all by itself. Don’t get me started on Siri…
 
my Apple CarPlay is behaving badly (intermittently) with Spotify. It will be operating normally then all the sudden the sound is “different “ and the buttons on steering wheel won’t work, won’t advance a song or sound. This has happened multiple times. Yesterday I had to get in and out of Spotify 3 times before it finally started working normal again.

I don't have this issue with any other vehicle - Honda Accord, Toyota Venza, or Acura RDX. It's unique to my experience with the LC :(
 
I have this exact same issue and it's very annoying. Trying to listen to a message while the music continues to play is distracting. Hopefully there will be a remedy.

There are 2 different audio head units used on the various LC models/trims. I wonder if that explains the different experiences. Or perhaps the phone models being used. Somewhat curious....

I see perfect bluetooth connectivity using FE "premium" audio and iPhone 11Pro.
