Brake Squeal in reverse?

Had the same issue on my Tundra before trading it in on my LC. There was a service bulletin to change out front rotors and brake pads and mounting hardware. After that no more squeal. It was just coming from the front end when backing up. This was a known issue with 2022-2024 Tundra's.
That is a little disheartening. A recurring problem going bask to 2022... And they didn’t even fix it for their flagship luxury SUV.

See below. I like @EOD Guy 's procedure since he does it in reverse and it may help. Curious if you have tried this yet:

X2 on bedding in the brakes...... manual tells you to avoid making sudden stops for the first 200 miles. Not a good idea to press the accelerator and the brake at the same time........... could make the hybrid system puke.

I normally get up to about 20-30 mph and lightly apply the brakes, my goal is to stop in about 50 yards. I repeat 5-6 times, then 20-30 mph and apply the brakes as I normally would when coming to a stop sign do that 5-6 times. Then I drive in reverse to what I consider a slow to medium-slow speed (faster than backing out of a drive way) and brake normally repeat 3-4 times.

That's my procedure I did with the LC...... no squeals for me........
I also did the back up procedure thinking new brake pad wear. Squeal keeps coming back. Dealer said they are ordering calipers and pads for me.

Here's the service bulletin number related to the tundra issues. T-SB-0043-24 from 2022-2024
Found one on the GX550, same break issues as tundra. L-SB-0036-24 from 2022-2024.
Curious who's making these parts. Here's a copy of GX550 SB

Please call Toyota customer service 1-800-331–4331 to complain about the break noise. Mine have squealed since the day I bought it and I’m at 5000 miles. They told me they won’t fix this or put out an TSB until enough. People complain to them

That poor kitty!

The representative at the dealership told me they were aware of the problem as is Toyota, that it also exists in the Tacoma, and is related to a material in the break pads, but that they can not do anything about it until directed by Toyota, which he expect will eventually come about. He denied there was any safety concerns.

Thanks for making this thread and all the information folks have responded with! I can report I noticed the noise at about 1,800 miles on my LC. I've been ignoring it since I was following this thread of information and seems like it is common. Hopefully gets addressed in the near future, at least good to hear it doesn't seem to be safety issues. Whenever I hit my 5k service I'll mention it to whatever dealership I go to and see if there anything also. Thanks again!

Mine is in for the 10,000 mile service at the local dealer. I just talked to the service manager after my case manager claimed it was perfectly normal for all cars to squeal brakes in reverse. When pressed he confirmed the following
1. Toyota is well aware of the issue.
2. There is no service bulletin nor ETA for one on it. There is no current repair that will fix it. I brought up the Lexus TSB and he said he doesn't have access to that system.
3. He personally believes its a new formulation of brake pads Toyota is using on their trucks. He alluded to other models being affected. However not sure this does or does not makes sense if Lexus believes the answer is a shim kit.

My only thought is finding some non-OEM brake pads and getting a brake job and/or taking to a brake shop specifically to investigate further.

Also I recently took my LC to far west Texas on a very dusty off road trail and can report that it progressively got worse eventually starting to do it in forward gear as well as reverse. It was horrible.

Until you said Texas I was convinced we had gone to the same Dealership as this is exactly the company line they fed me.

Said there's nothing they can do on warranty until the TSB comes out but that 1) he believes that should be soon and 2) but he really has no idea.
