1958 folks.. regrets?

Are you referring to this part? I was under the impression these had one part number and were all unpainted when ordered from the dealer.

Yeah, that’s what I mean. I used to work at Toyota R&D and still have friends there. One checked and there are separate p/ns for each color, so I could be proven wrong (sometimes R&D and real life have a disconnect) but my pal said I should be able to just order the part. Maybe not available yet?

I was dead set on getting them but I’ve come to like the way it looks in black.

1958 is not color matched like the other trims, it’s just black which I think looks good. Dealers don’t “order” Toyota’s, they receive allocations.
I probably misunderstood your post but yeah I imagine just ordering the part it comes unpainted???

Waffling over my future purchase. LC vs GX. Background I've owned a new 2016 Trail Ed 4Runner with KDSS and upgraded to a 17 GX460 with need for a 3rd row when we had kids. Both were nice offerings and I loved owning both of them. I'm looking to move back into the Toyota/Lexus camp after owning an F150 for a few years. I was leaning GX, but the lack of efficiency isn't doing it for me and I prefer the styling and hybrid of the LC.

With the decision to move on an LC, I'm all over the map on the 1958 vs LC trim. I much prefer the idea of a bare bones LC. I love the round headlights and more rugged interior. I'm getting over the unpainted plastic bumpers up front and for that reason would probably go with black color to match it or possibly meteor shower to make it blend better. I'm surprised Toyota didn't body paint the 1958 up front. Obviously the question remains..for a few more grand we can spec an LC trim and there is the dilemma.

For the current 1958 owners is there any feature you feel would have been nice stepping up a trim? Many of the features are fluff me in the LC trim , but I'm used to 360 cameras, memory seats (wife and I are not even close driving position wise) etc in my truck. They are not deal breakers. With younger kids it appears the 1958 would possibly hold up a bit better to the wear and tear of an active family? The price is so close I'm trying to figure out the best move. My dealer has no LCs at all in stock, but a 1958 is coming in next week and I can take a look at it at least to make a more informed opinion.
I love my 1958. The higher trims have too much shit on them for me. I'm an IT Specialist, I've been a technician for decades, everything breaks, and the more points of failure there are, the more shit that will break. It's not worth the extra 10k-20 to me. I love my bare-bones 58. I've had two FJ62's and an FJ60, and this 250 is amazing to me, it is my forever car. My only complaint is even the bare-bones 1958 trim has way too much electronic shit on it.

That is nice to know! My other plan if I went the 1958 route would be to get them painted at a shop. I"m not sure there is a close wrap that can match Meteor shower for instance.

I am happy with my 1958 but believe the LCLC is probably the right trim for most people, and you get quite a few options for the price. I appreciate the poverty spec concept and am loving the cloth seats.

I found that the 1958 245 vs 265 tires looked lame and spent a grand on new tires right away. I also spent another grand on step/sliders because my wife is pretty short. In my case the price differential got even smaller between the two. I still probably would have gone for a 1958, but it's something to consider.

Ditch safety sense 3.0. Go back to 1.0
This thing beeps if a bug hits the windshield.....

Funny story.... I was going down a steep dirt hill and hit a hard spot that jarred the LC a little. The Dash cam beeped and started recording. I read this thing does this if it experiences a certain G threshold. I was like WTF is beeping again....

Doubt wrap would adhere to the plastic

I have the LCLC in Meteor Shower and love it except for the cool box, which is a waste of space. I would much rather have had a regular console for storage, especially since the glove compartment is also small. After I got the LCLC, I saw this gentleman on YouTube and he gives a very informative description for the 1958 model (more pros than cons).

Thanks for posting this. It was very interesting. I thought I had watched most reviews, but I had not yet seen this one. Awaiting delivery of my Meteor Shower, 1958 model in the next few weeks.

I had a reservation for the GX550 Overtrail in Sand/BLK, it had the roof rack and the rock rails - it was the picture perfect GX550 Overtrail IMO. I was torn between that and buying a used '22-'23 460 or a used 4RUNNER since I don't want to baby my vehicle. I want to drive it up the mountain, put the dog in the back, and not worry about it. I felt like the GX550 would've been hard to justify at $81K for the kind of use and milage I wanted to put it through.
I saw a few 1958s in stock locally, went for a test drive and fell in love with it.
My hesitation with the 4RUNNER and the GX460s is the outdated tech. The 1958 has all the tech I will ever need. It has the body, size, and capability of any other LC.

The disconnecting sway bar is great if you're hard core, I'm not. I don't want to thrash my daily driver. The 1958, to me, feels like what a modern 80 series would be.

My only gripe is that the speedometer is off by 2MPH due to Toyota setting all Land Cruisers to the LC trim tire size, which I think is complete and utter BS.

So far I have changed the tires to Toyo AT3s, FE Roof Rack, and JDM Mud Flaps. I want to add rock sliders and skid plates but that's about it.

Even with the FE roof rack, which I believe completes the look of this truck, I sometimes feel like the bare bones look with a good tire is all you need.

my 0.02

Switching out the hard plastic knee bolsters on the center console to padded ones from a higher trim made a nice difference.

Swapping the 1958's rims to (5) used ones from an Overtrail helped a lot. Running 32" Defender M/S tires plus the 1/2" wider rim and +10 offset improved road dynamics.

Like most agree, the value of a L/C seems to get blurry when climbing trim levels. Since true mechanicals don't change, it was a hard pass. Never used MTS in any of my trucks and prefer to do that work myself, so was a positive not to have it in the 1958.

If the higher trims included a larger gas tank, that would of swayed me. The sway-bar disconnect did not... hehehe

I haven't had a moment on the trails that I said I wish I had MTS or sway-bar disconnect. Ground clearance is the game for me, which those disconnects take away and this car articulates fantastic as is.

I like the cloth seats better. If you got kids or drooling dogs, you can get katzkins which is actually pretty dope.

Who in the hell was gonna take away the extra room for all my random bullshit in the middle storage with a cool box? No one. And the cool box don't work when it's freezing outside? Really?

Less screens shoved in my face. I look at screens all day for a living. Get that shit out of my ride.

I pay less to get extra head room in the 1958? Whaaaat!!?

Do I get better ground clearance or a bigger gas tank in the LCLC? Nope.

Land Cruiser Land Cruiser is awkward to say and explain. 1958.

This is already a luxury upgrade over my limited 4runner. Just enough to not miss my runner.

The simplicity of the 1958 in these over the top modern times is the luxury and it actually costs less to get.

SBD makes a huge difference crawling over rocks everything else is personal taste

For the price, I would've never been happy with the 58. I also don't like cloth seats and don't think I've had them in at least 15 years.
