1958 folks.. regrets?

Are you referring to this part? I was under the impression these had one part number and were all unpainted when ordered from the dealer.

Yeah, that’s what I mean. I used to work at Toyota R&D and still have friends there. One checked and there are separate p/ns for each color, so I could be proven wrong (sometimes R&D and real life have a disconnect) but my pal said I should be able to just order the part. Maybe not available yet?

I was dead set on getting them but I’ve come to like the way it looks in black.

1958 is not color matched like the other trims, it’s just black which I think looks good. Dealers don’t “order” Toyota’s, they receive allocations.

I probably misunderstood your post but yeah I imagine just ordering the part it comes unpainted???

Waffling over my future purchase. LC vs GX. Background I've owned a new 2016 Trail Ed 4Runner with KDSS and upgraded to a 17 GX460 with need for a 3rd row when we had kids. Both were nice offerings and I loved owning both of them. I'm looking to move back into the Toyota/Lexus camp after owning an F150 for a few years. I was leaning GX, but the lack of efficiency isn't doing it for me and I prefer the styling and hybrid of the LC.

With the decision to move on an LC, I'm all over the map on the 1958 vs LC trim. I much prefer the idea of a bare bones LC. I love the round headlights and more rugged interior. I'm getting over the unpainted plastic bumpers up front and for that reason would probably go with black color to match it or possibly meteor shower to make it blend better. I'm surprised Toyota didn't body paint the 1958 up front. Obviously the question remains..for a few more grand we can spec an LC trim and there is the dilemma.

For the current 1958 owners is there any feature you feel would have been nice stepping up a trim? Many of the features are fluff me in the LC trim , but I'm used to 360 cameras, memory seats (wife and I are not even close driving position wise) etc in my truck. They are not deal breakers. With younger kids it appears the 1958 would possibly hold up a bit better to the wear and tear of an active family? The price is so close I'm trying to figure out the best move. My dealer has no LCs at all in stock, but a 1958 is coming in next week and I can take a look at it at least to make a more informed opinion.

I love my 1958. The higher trims have too much shit on them for me. I'm an IT Specialist, I've been a technician for decades, everything breaks, and the more points of failure there are, the more shit that will break. It's not worth the extra 10k-20 to me. I love my bare-bones 58. I've had two FJ62's and an FJ60, and this 250 is amazing to me, it is my forever car. My only complaint is even the bare-bones 1958 trim has way too much electronic shit on it.

That is nice to know! My other plan if I went the 1958 route would be to get them painted at a shop. I"m not sure there is a close wrap that can match Meteor shower for instance.

I am happy with my 1958 but believe the LCLC is probably the right trim for most people, and you get quite a few options for the price. I appreciate the poverty spec concept and am loving the cloth seats.

I found that the 1958 245 vs 265 tires looked lame and spent a grand on new tires right away. I also spent another grand on step/sliders because my wife is pretty short. In my case the price differential got even smaller between the two. I still probably would have gone for a 1958, but it's something to consider.

I like my 1958. No regrets. I think it’s cool. It’s a man’s truck - basic and utilitarian. Only thing i needed to add is running boards for when i cart women around.

If i was going to spend $65k i would go for the GX

Funny story.... I was going down a steep dirt hill and hit a hard spot that jarred the LC a little. The Dash cam beeped and started recording. I read this thing does this if it experiences a certain G threshold. I was like WTF is beeping again....
