Yep. There’s a marketing appeal to “let’s make this thing so close to a track car that it’s barely street legal” that has trickled even further than M cars and into the mainstream a bit. It seems sexy but makes for a frustrating ownership experience.
Thank you, and that is a beautiful 982!
I had a 2003 Boxster S for a while but had to sell it when a business I owned fell on hard times in 2006. I loved it though and glad I was able to backfill it years later.
I’m interested in the one they have for the rear hatch. Great spot to put some cable ties or something and keep them out of the way, plus keeps stuff from sliding back and scuffing the plastic panel.
I’m obsessive about engine braking on mountain grades. People around here warp their discs by riding their brakes. I-70 Eisenhower to Silverthorne drops 2400 feet in about 12 miles.
Great pictures!
I haven’t been down that road in 5 or 6 years; last time I was it was pretty washboarded. Devil’s Head is a great hike for visitors but it was quite the vibration destination. Nice to hear they graded the road.
One of my favorite drives in the other car is to go down to...
I have the same extra ~3 inch lift in the back of my Tahoe because Chevy used that space for foldable 3rd row seat hardware. So it seemed normal to me in the LC. At least it creates space for some enclosed storage.
I know that the hybrid battery recharges during driving and I’m curious about how it feels. I drove a Rivian the other day and experienced single-pedal driving for the first time other than in a golf cart. It’s not objectionable but very different than ICE vehicles.
I’m sure the regenerative...
I’m not seeing how that would be a natural choice. It would create weird overlap with the Land Cruiser and the GX for that matter. And, as above, the 4Runner will borrow very heavily from the Tacoma including powertrain options.
Nothing wrong with the Toyo AT3s at all. Wanted to point out that my research keeps pointing me to Nokian Outpost nATs. My use case is perhaps similar to yours - tons of highway driving with an occasional trailhead road. I’m in Colorado and commute back and forth over Vail Pass between homes...
The ability to track a program for a set number of free oil changes across the Toyota dealer network would be a massive and massively expensive systems undertaking. Simply put, I don’t think the dealer network shares information about your car other than whatever they might report to Carfax.
Setting aside the notion of an early bonus oil change to account for manufacturing material - I wonder if there is any data out there that supports a 3000 mile oil change interval as necessary or optimal for engine longevity. And why is it 3000? Why not 2000 or 1500, following the logic is...
I had an interesting experience last weekend where there was no available allocation in the next 1-2 releases. But when I wrote a deposit check I insisted it be refundable lest I find an allocation elsewhere.
The sales rep came back downstairs from the manager’s office having suddenly found...
That car wash subscription is gold, especially in winter around here when it’s hard to keep cars clean. Mine is at the head of our ‘hood, I hit it half the time on my way in. If I don’t have time to vacuum I can be in and out in less than 5 minutes.
I’m sure they will fall short in comparison to a use-specific tire like the KO3. Really, OEM tires are like cruise ship food. If you cook it too spicy a few people will love it but everyone else will hate it. So OEM tires are usually a flavor of highway tire.
Surprisingly though, Lexus is...
Here’s the link to the models/features comparison on the Toyota website:

Pretty useful in this case. A few of the differences between 1958 and LC that jumped out at me about the 1958, other than what’s already been...
Colorado is a weird sell for dedicated snows. Counterintuitively we drive in storms 5 or 6 times a winter but the rest of the time we’re on dry roads or at worst on melt. Same freeze thaw effect that makes our roads so bad. I’d love a snow tire for those few situations but I feel like it would...
I used a cheap wireless CarPlay dongle in my Tahoe for a while. It would disconnect occasionally and allow some interference. Eventually I began to notice it was doing these things predictably in certain locations. I never figured out what specifically was causing the issues but I could drive...
Based on the experience I had with a Lexus dealer, I suspect Toyota handles allocation volume credit differently when a dealer sells outside their “territory.” My Lexus guy wanted my zip code and that was why.
This is not at all the way BMW behaves in my experience, and might explain why your...
I’m guessing the 4Runner will have the same set of engines the Tacoma has, which might include a non-hybrid turbo 4.
I can’t imagine they’d put the 6 from the Tundra in it without also making that available in the LC.
I want to keep an open mind on these because the idea of spending $1500 on a set of tires when the ones on my truck are brand new doesn’t appeal to me at all.
But my concern is snow performance. I split time between homes in Denver and Vail and find myself on Vail Pass in a storm now and then...
I split time between Denver and Avon, CO. Whatever off-roading I do is generally roads to trailheads. Not super duty frankly. But I do drive up and down I-70 constantly. Sometimes that feels like rock crawling. The route takes me up to the tunnel and also over Vail Pass, so in a storm the...
Howdy. Westwood High School ‘89 graduate here. I live in Denver now but still visit ATX often for work.
I’ve seen a few horn replacement threads here; apparently it’s super easy. Careful who you honk at down there though!
Hi there. 80108 here and just yesterday signed up for an allocation on a Heritage Blue down at Corwin. It gets here in November; look forward to confusing you in the grocery store lot!
We have the Burmeister system in my wife’s Mercedes. It’s nothing special. The Bose system in my Tahoe sounds better.
I finally drove a LC at a dealer yesterday (and found an allocation BTW but different story). I thought the JBL system sounded pretty good.
Agreed. There are definitely some “wax/polish” products out there. The name sounds harmless enough; I’m sure a lot of people don’t understand what “polish” really is and what it does.
