Quality Control Delays!!

I’ve got deposits at two different dealerships, in two different states for Heritage Blue, Land Cruiser trim level, premium package with 20” wheels.

Got a call from both dealerships stating my VIN was “randomly” selected for quality control.

Coincidence? I will not be playing the lottery today…

So I gave up on the one I've been waiting on!

Dealership's owner got a 2nd allocation for himself (30 days after mine) and it came in this week.

11:00: Salesman called and told me owner's wife was coming in for a test drive, and asked if I wanted it if she turned it down, I said sure.

12:15: My daughter texted me and informed me the dealership in her town had a LCFE for sale (same color). I called and asked for an out the door price (taxes included).

2:00: Original salesman called and told me, owners wife test drove it and didn't like it and if I wanted it. I said well........... Tuscaloosa Toyota has one on the lot at MSRP + dealer costs and if they would match the price, I'd be there in 20 mins to buy it. He said he'd call me back.

2:15: Orig salesman texted me, stating him and his manager checked on the one in Tuscaloosa and it had been sold. and the price was the price as they weren't making any more of them.

2:10: New salesman called, yes it was available and was "X" dollars out the door. I said I'd take it and gave him a deposit. Picking in up on Monday as they were about to close (it's a 2, 1/2 hour drive from me).

2:30: I texted the orig salesman, told him I was sorry for wasting his time and was going to pass as Tuscaloosa was coming in 9K under his best deal. (Old deal taxes were not included, new deal they were, so 9K actual dollars).

2:31: He texted "I'm telling you it's not available we called" I replied yes it was and I'll be picking it up Monday...........

So........ I lost my 1K non-refundable deposit.

Gained: PPF, Lifetime powertrain warranty (through that dealership), window tint, taxes included in the price, vertical cargo net, all weather cargo mat (now I have two), paint sealant and still saved 8K.

The non-refundable deposit is crappy. I've never heard of a dealer doing that. Otherwise it's going to be a long couple of days!

Is a non-refundable deposit even legal in Alabama?

I guess I'll have to stop complaining about delays, just arrived home from picking it up. All I can say is wow! Yes it has a harsher ride than a car but better that my Taco, It has such a light touch on the gas pedal, I had to be very careful keeping it under 70 for the 1st 200 miles. Didn't hear the strange noise at low speeds others have reported on. Very good road manners. The auto-driving things is strange at first...... I have both hands firmly on the steering wheel but you could feel it trying to correct.

So overall impression....... Grin factor was nearly past my ears......LOL

If anyone is looking in the general VA area, looks like my dealer had someone back out of a LC premium. 71k MSRP. Still available I think. Wind Chill and black interior.

Edit: Looks like it may be gone.

Same multiple delays happened to me…I found a different dealership that had access to a different LC, same color/ trim I was after. Ask around if you are as impatient as myself

If it misses this next window I might just do that but FE are harder to come by.

Put my down payment on May 28th... My LC sat in Calif port for 2 months... Now has been sitting in a phoenix railyard for 1 week about 30min from my house... Hopefully I will be able to drive 1.5 hours North to pick it up this weekend from the out of town dealership? Seems Toyota likes to make cars to sit in ports and rail yards. My LC was made April 4th! I think the 2025 models will be here soon...too? Might be quicker??? FYI.... Still have not seen a LC in the Wild...

I must be in the minority at this point. I put a deposit down out of state in April. Build date 4/4. My LC premium trim arrived at Portland on 5/1. Put on QC hold. Finally was put on a train on 7/8 where it has been slowly circling the country on a site seeing tour! I still have no idea when I’m going to get it. Has to get off train in Kansas City and put on truck. There are LC that were built in June that are already in people’s hands at this point. It’s really frustrating.

It has finally arrived my friends!

Build date 3/29/24
Ship left Japan 4/5/24
Arrived at port of Newark, NJ 5/3/24
Arrived at dealer in PA 7/24/24
Picked up today 7/25/24
