Total Chaos / King Coilover Kit

Thanks for all great experience shares.
It’s very helpful!

Today, talked to RPM Garage (local tech here) which I tend to have them to install the set. They told me that Dobinson is a bit stiffer ride in town without heavy loaded compared to Icon, but handle loaded better while off-road.
I would consider you fairly heavy loaded. Basically the same as me, and I had to add a .5" spacer in the rear and lower my front to 2.1" of lift to gain just over .5" of rake. Perfect for when I pull my camper.

Which Dobinsons Springs you had?

817s. 175-330lb.
I had Frontrunners drawer system + fridge slider installed permanently in my LC cargo. It is 150lbs with nothing in them. Every off-road/family camping trip, we loaded a lot of stuffs + hitch mount spare tire carrier, so easily total weight added up to 330 plus lbs.

Dobinsons 817V (175-330lbs) is the right springs for me ! Thanks much for your information !

Where did you get the Dobinsons from?
Would you give me name and contact information of it? Many thanks!

General, looks like that specific springs in back order!
Probably, some small shops still have them in stock…

I got mine direct from Dobinson. I called them because they were showing back order. Only took them about a week to ship them out.

Talked to Dobinsons and was told…Backorder: RED springs in mid Feb while Black in few more months!
I got everything ready (TC+Adjustable King suspension F+R and fair installation labor fee), but the springs hold me back!
While waiting…I hope other companies like Old Man Emu will have springs for our LC.

Looks like they have in stock. I have never bought from them.

Thanks much for pulling out information here.
I will get the (very lightly used, black) springs from our friend here while we need to get the heavier ones for his use. Hope that I will get it done soon for my LC.

GetinReady, are you going to meet our gang this Sunday 12th?

Henry, very nice to meet you and see your lifted LC. It is sold to me ;)

Now, waiting for cmpugh7 to ship his Dobinson springs to me, then project will be completed ;)

So far…you, cmpugh7, and me (very soon) have “same” lift kits

Great meeting you today! Look forward to seeing your LC with the TC setup!

I am so skeptical about lifting these cars, maybe 1" maximum with softest springs that allow shock to fully compress. My hunch is flex getting compromised and down travel. I want to see king vs stock flex test so bad. You are much more tippy when it comes to flexing and can get sketchy if you add weight to roof rack like tent. Realistically you are fine touring on 90% fire roads and 2" extra helps going over rocks and not hitting bottom with weight sagging suspension when coming down the rock, but this compromises actually off-roading ability and optimizes suspension a little to much towards non tilting situations, clearing obstacles on rather level ground. Portals are much more appropriate and it gives you 4" lift and you don't need 35"+ tires.

I think with this setup you loose 1" (2" lift -1" extension of kings) down travel which affects grip when flexing out. Can you do ramp test to see how much front shock compresses before overpowering rear springs (although harder rear spring can force front to compress more)? Panhard correction doesn't hit the frame on full compress? Don't think it's needed axle doesn't move too much left if at all with 2" lift.

Looks excellent though. How does it ride compared to stock?

The ride is certainly stiffer than the stock. But it is surprisingly smooth when the paved road ends. I have a Ford F350 with a Carli suspension setup and fox shocks on 37 inch tires. This is a noticeably rougher ride.

Check out my new post about self installation of dv8 bumper + integrated / hidden 12,000 lbs winch + 20” light bar

Next will be fully lifted kit (not spacers or preload collars stuffs…)
Hi! Would love to see your post on the DV8 bumper. Where did you get power from for your light bar and winch? Hope to hear back from you.

Check my old posts about it (search through my sign name t3lcfe) Had photos and clearly show how/why all cables/fuses/switch…running/working.

I had many mod posts which always included photos and some explanations
