Looking for a more subtle (and not insanely expensive) tire upgrade on 20 inch rims. Thanks for suggestions!

I got the Bridgestone Dueler in 18”. They seem like good tires for road and mild off-road, and are pretty subtle in looks (to the point I’ll go less subtle next time…).

I got them because they do well in testing (see Tire Rack - https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Dueler+A/T+Ascent&sidewall=Outlined White Letter&partnum=76TR0DATAOWL&tab=Sizes) and are only around 40 lbs for the 20” ones.
Yea.. they are on the short list for Miss Daisy.

More subtle than the geolanders or grandtrek? I would use those until they are cashed if they aren’t already cashed.

Nice! I did the same on the GX OT wheels. I can’t hear them on the highway, even compared to the OEM Geolanders. I think the ride is less mushy and improves the joy of driving.

The best road tire and very light trial tire you could put on is the Michelin Defender LTX MS2.
Excellent in all categories. Far superior to the Geo junk and Dohlop even are worse.
Mine are 20" factory rims, huge upgrade from the Geo junk, cornering much better, no drifting, no weird feelings when trying to turn tight. I had no idea the Yokos were so bad till i gave them away. The done lops are worse.
Good luck.

Those are definitely on my short list to replace Miss Daisy’s OEM Michelins.

However, the last Michelin Defenders that I had on my 2012 Subaru Outback made a lot of road noise, a whining noise that got very old after a while.

I would throw out the Atturo Trail Blade ATS. They are about as quiet as the stock tire, because the are XL load rating, not a C or E. But they have an aggressive sidewall. I bought them from Amazon for under $150/ea.

You can see the photos on my profile.

These really are the best choice if you’re OK with the slightly boring look.

Another option is the Continental TerrainContact AT, a well regarded highway/light trail tire.

I agree with the Michelin defender LTX M/S 2 sentiment. To me they are the best tires ever made and I've seen people on the trail with them.

I wanted a bit more aggressive look but not too aggressive and still on the subtle side. So I put on the Michelin LTX A/T 2. Which is a slightly more aggressive but noisier(if you call it that ) cousin of the M/S 2s. They are still butter on the road.

Here are some pictures of the A/T 2s. One of them is from the old geolanders for a not so subtle before and after effect.

I had the ATs on one of my trucks for a while. The handling is so much better on the MS2s i went back to to those and really pleased on several vehicles including the Cruiser.

Arguably the Michelin's are not a subtle upgrade they are a serious and very noticeable upgrade from any of the factory idot low buck stuffus.

I think in general this is correct. I just wanted something different this time.

One thing I noticed on the A/T 2s is that the tire pressure makes a huge difference. I'm running the 275/70/18s E load and there is a noticeable difference from 40 psi to 35. At 40 they are very bouncy and not in total command but then at 35 you start getting that command back and the ride is smoother. I've yet to air them down on the trail but that's coming on the 19th.

Not sure about the size in 20” as I have 18”. But throwing these in as an option.
But the Sumitomo (parent company to falken tires) Encounter AT.
All terrain, a little more aggressive looking but capable in many conditions.
Also for the 18” sizes I was able to get them for 149.40 per tire.
So far the ride is comfortable.
I haven’t taken them on very fast freeway speeds yet.

275/60-20 Continental TerrainContact, either the AT or HT depending on what you want out of them. Fantastic tire, not inexpensive. Out performs the MS2, which is also a great tire.

I have the AT.
