Put deposit down on both a LC and GX, now the confusion begins

My 2c as I considered both and went LC (prices were within spitting distance of each other)
  • Vastly prefer styling on Land Cruiser both interior (especially the interior - GX 550 felt stuffy, 90s black plastic middle manager sheen everywhere. LC feels like it should - a luxury off-roader) and exterior (LC looks more like what I'll use it for, like the retro vibe, GX 550 looks dope though)
  • The physical climate controls and other physical buttons in the LC. This was probably the biggest one - hate dealing with screens for EVERYTHING like in the GX. The LC controls are very thoughtfully designed, everything that you would want to be a physical button is
  • Mildly better angles and off-road stats in the LC
  • Better MPG and torque advantages of the electric motor. Can't overstate how fun the torque on the LC is off-road, it's just always there when you need it
By far the biggest downside of the LC is the range, which I'm fine with as I need to carry spare fuel where I go anyways. Both are great cars!

If my main goal was not much off-road use, I'd go for the GX. Better drivetrain, better daily creature comforts, more seats and more cargo room.

Fortunately, I didn't have to make this choice as the nearest Lexus dealer is 400 miles away.

I think my "choice" is largely going to be made for me as well, as the LC is on US soil somewhere, and the GX is vaporware at this point.

I really wish I could track the movement of the LC online somewhere. I'd call my dealer daily but I'm trying not to be a total pain in the ass!

I had the GX550 Overtrail Plus for a month. It spend a total of 3 nights of that month in my driveway. It rode terribly and that issue is very well documented. My dealer was awesome and took it back with full refund. Now have the LC/LC and absolutely love it. It much more user friendly and more comfortable inside. Also much better looking IMO. The GX550 screams more soccer mom. I also prefer the Turbo 4 over the sketchy TTV6 which is overly complicated and not so great reliability.

Today I put a refundable deposit on a GX 550 Premium+ in Incognito, after seeing one at the dealer this morning. Unfortunately it's a waiting game, as my dealer has no insight as to when they might get an allocation for a vehicle with the specs I want. I think the exterior of the GX is gorgeous, but the interior looks a bit less interesting. I've also got a refundable deposit down on a LC in Meteor Shower with the Premium package, priced at sticker. The LC stickers around $4,000 less than the GX.

Today I got a call today that the Land Cruiser is "in port", so I figure it's a few weeks away from delivery. With no insight to the GX delivery, I'm likely to buy the LC when it arrives.

Am I nuts for not passing on the LC and waiting for a GX to arrive? In either case I'm trading my '18 Jeep Rubicon. I've been driving a series of Wranglers for the last 12 years (Sport, Sahara, Rubicon), and have just grown a bit tired of the harsh ride and road noise. I'm ready for something a bit more civilized. If both were sitting in front of me, I honestly don't know which I'd take as both have plusses and minuses. Horsepower is irrelevant to me, as I'm used to the performance level of the Jeep.

Any thoughts either way?
I went the other direction. I put down a deposit on a GX (same color combination actually), heard nothing from the dealer about it for a year, then decided to visit a Toyota dealer and had a Land Cruiser 60 days later.

Iโ€™m happy; the specifics of the option packages would have made the GX I wanted cost $10K more than the LC I wanted anyway. Worked out fine. I agree with others that the ethos of this vehicle fits better with a Toyota nameplate than Lexus. That alone would not make my decision but it does factor in.

I've driven both and definitely preferred the LC. Having said that, a lot depends on things you like/don't like. I wanted 2 rows only - that limited me to the LC or Overtrail. I wanted leather, 3 zone heating/cooling with roof vents, physical controls (and more) that aren't available at all on the Overtrail GX550. In other words, I built a pro/con list for my preferences and that made choosing the LC easy. One thing I really disliked (hated) about the GX550 is the lack of any useful physical controls. I find the menu driven nonsense to be the biggest detriment to the GX550. On the other hand, given the choice, I may have chosen the V-6TT if it had been available on the LC. Now that I've driven my LC for 12,000+ miles, I can unequivocally say the 4-cylinder mild hybrid is a terrific choice that sounds horrible (like, really bad.) But, the performance is excellent. The V-6 is smoother and somewhat more powerful and sounds fine. I do love the additional MPG I'm getting with the LC. Lots more I could compare, but take the time to look at the differences between the two and you should be able to figure out what's right for you.
