Just put a deposit down on a TRD Pro 4Runner

I was in line for the new 4R but the delays AND the fact that they will release the hybrid model after the gas one, puts it 2nd half of this year. So, late last year, I flipped and bought my LC. I love the drive of the LC, and I think she's a sweet ride.

I do like the aggressive styling of the new 4R. The dealer in my area has one on their lot for display purposes. (Owner did the same thing when the LC launched). I gotta admit, the 4R looks great.

Frankly, I think either the LC or the 4R will be great rides. Enjoy!!!!

As I have been waiting for the insurance payout on my Trail Dust LC Premium + I have been confused on what to do next. I only had 2,000 miles on my LC, and I really enjoyed it, but most of the dealers around me are marking them up 6-8k. There are a couple Heritage Blue in the build stage coming to dealers a couple hundred miles away, those are potential options. There are tons of 1958's available, but I am wanting a Premium + in either TD or HB. I was able to find a Mudbath over Black TRD Pro 4Runner at MSRP today, so I put a deposit down. I came from a 2018 TRD Pro (Cavalry Blue) and I really miss the ability to put the rear window down. I still really enjoyed driving my 4Runner, I just wanted all the cool tech of newer cars (specifically Carplay, push button start, and wireless charging).

Anyone else looking at the 4Runner? I took a brief glance at the Lexus GX, but to get the options I would want is more money than I would like to spend.
Shootโ€ฆ if you change your mind on the TRD Pro, I can buy you a Heritage Blue LC for $5000 under sticker here in PA and get it shipped out and still save you money!

Just out of curiosity, I looked to see what's available around here. Looks like there are more 4Runners available than LCs. Bunch of "being built" ones listed (with $4K discounts in some cases), but nothing on the lots. Thought they'd have a bunch hitting the ground by now. At least enough to have some inventory out there. Lots of 1958s, though.

I had a 5th gen 4Runner and loved it.

I waited and waited for the 6th reveal and the interior styling of the thing is not my jam. Especially the higher trims. The interior colors and all of the badging, camo patterns and other cheesy decisions.

I love the interior of my Premie LC.

As an alternative view, the appearances are the only thing that I have a significant critique of the 6G4R. I think it butt-ugly. But thereโ€™s no accounting for taste!
Agreed. I was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new 4Runner, but when the LC was announced, I pounced. Once the 4R was finally released, I was glad I hadn't waited.

I really like the subdued-brick SUV look.

Donโ€™t get me wrong. I absolutely loved my 5th gen 4Runner and wish I had kept it years ago, but the new โ€œOEM Aggressiveโ€ look of the 6G4R is too much. Iโ€™m sure they drive and handle great, but the maturity of the styling on the LC is where itโ€™s at.

Exactly my thoughts. I like that the LC design avoids trying to look macho or sporty, in favour of a more neutral, timeless design. I feel like the 4Runner may be more appealing to the under 40 crowd.

Iโ€™m 38 and itโ€™s bad.

I had a deposit down on a Trd pro in mud bath. I was unsure about the new hybrid engine so I went into my local dealer when they had a land cruiser in transit on the lot and he said he would let me drive it before he sold it. I drove it about 5 miles and absolutely loved it and bought it that day. Iโ€™m so happy with my new Land Cruiser!
Putting in the Wescott lift, new tires wheels just did the Tint. Ordered rock rails and roof rack. Canโ€™t wait!

I've had a lot of strangers asking me about my LC lately. I've told them all "You just need to drive it, and you'll want one". New rims just arrived from Japan, going on today.

I placed my name "on the list" at my local Toyota dealership for a TRD Pro back in mid December. Toyota's allocation system is actually a crap shoot on what the dealership receives or how many it receives. So, to make a long story short I wanted a Black TRD Pro, they received a White TRD Pro in their first allocation. I had a lengthy back and forth over finding a different color and due to a lack of communication on their part, they reserved a fucking Underground color to another customer without checking back with me. I later found a Black one at a dealer located about 100 miles from me. The dealer added close to a $4K dealer charge to the sticker making it cost over 75K before tax, tariff etc.

I reserved it with 1K but with the stipulation that I WILL NOT buy if Trumps 25% tariff is placed on it. They understood and in the mean time, as the Tariff date approached, I test drove a LC/LC w/premium package. I was hooked and wanted the LC.

I purchased the LC on the day Trump put the tariff in effect (last week) and contacted the dealership telling them that per our agreement, I will not purchase the TRD Pro (which was still on a ship and not at port) and wanted my 1K back. I'm still waiting for it but even if they refuse, I will have saved about 6K buying the LC. The Land Cruiser is the better choice IMHO, and I love it.

Post pics! Canโ€™t wait to see it!

After 9 years in a 2016 5th Gen I eagerly awaited the 6th Gen to upgrade the engine/transmission, electronics, CarPlay, etc. Once the design was revealed, I knew I could not possibly drive that vehicle as a 70 year old (in 10 years), as it looks like it was designed by a pre-pubescent boy. Additionally:
  • The interior design with all the plastic and the iPad-style display turned me off; they should be able to integrate a display that big without it sticking up, but they chose not to. The TRD Pro plasticky logos everywhere are hideous. The LandCruiser interior styling is right on point, despite having no storage;
  • Even further, lowering the height of the 6th Gen while slanting the windshield more than the 5th Gen makes it look like a chop-top, decreases the roominess of the interior (headroom, especially), and impacts the rear seat headroom at least as much;
  • I was so tired of not being able to see over the hood of my 5th Gen, and I found the LC250 to be a welcome change in that regard;
  • No available full-time 4WD except on trims that don't have 4WD options I want, that's a big fail;
  • Also, they should have just duplicated the front end styling of the 4Runner from the new Tacoma (like they did with the interior), but instead chose to make it different, and I think it looks significantly worse, mustaches aside; and...
  • [The TRD Pro really should have an ARB rear bumper option like the Tacoma has].
  • [It's ridiculous that the air compressor also isn't offered in the TRD Pro, as I think anyone who runs desert roads fast and frequently would want to air down some. And would want proper-ish rock rails.].

That's a whole lot of 'no thank you' in categories I care about, and even though I'd never considered a LandCruiser before, I'm happy to have moved on from the 4Runner.

Hey guys - Just wanted to close the loop on this thread. I picked up my Mudbath Pro last Friday (April 11) from Toyota of Newport (Newport Oregon) and drove it home on Saturday (I live 25 miles north of Seattle). I took backroads home; it was 325 miles and took about seven hours.

I wanted to share my thoughts on the new TRD Pro 4Runner compared to the Land Cruiser it replaced. My Land Cruiser only did a little over 2,000 miles before it was written off in a crash (footage in a different thread). So, while I only had my LC for 6 months, and I've only put 500 miles on my new truck, I have seen enough to make some general comments.

These thoughts are neither positive nor negative, just observations:

You sit lower in the 4R. Almost like a bathtub. In the LC it's more like a stagecoach, you sit higher, and it feels like you are riding on it

The 4R is much nimbler on its feet. It changes direction much quicker. Maybe because it is not fulltime 4wd? On a related note, I haven't seen any of the "nose dive" that was present in my Gen 5 TRD Pro 4R

A 14" Nav screen is ridiculous. I preferred the 12" screen in the LC. I do like the digital displays in the HVAC controls. The heated seats seem to be hotter in the 4R than in my LC

The 4R seems quicker off the line, like the throttle tip in is a little more aggressive. The Pro comes with a "TRD Performance Exhaust" and a "TRD Performance Air Intake." The end result is more noise. You hear the turbo more which I don't mind, but the exhaust does drone a bit. One thing that is kinda cool, when the engine kicks on from the battery the exhaust makes a cool "barking" noise.

The digital rear view camera on the 4R sits way lower than the LC. It makes a Jeep Patriot look like a monster truck. Hahaha it's wild. But it is mounted outside, I never liked how the LC camera was mounted behind the rear glass. And I am so glad I am back in a 4R for the ability to roll-down the rear window.

The start button on the 4R isn't down near the drive mode button like on the LC. I do prefer the flat phone charging service on the LC vs. the angled surface on the 4R.

Things I am going to miss from my LC: Heads-Up Display, Color Changing Fog Lights, and of course fulltime 4x4.

I am super happy with the 4R, I don't like the gloss flares, but those are in the process of being taken care of. I am happy to answer any questions. I think the LC is a more mature, refined, higher end product. But I am a 54yo guy going on 18, so the 4R is a good fit for me ๐Ÿ˜

I've had a lot of strangers asking me about my LC lately. I've told them all "You just need to drive it, and you'll want one". New rims just arrived from Japan, going on today.

Any time I've read or watched reviews online, there are always tons of comments like, "I'll never buy a 4-cylinder Land Cruiser!" (or 4Runner...or Tacoma...etc), or "I can't believe Toyota thinks the 4-cylinder is a good idea!", or "I'm so glad I still have my 2006 4Runner instead of this piece of junk", etc...

and 99+% of the time, I'm assuming that they've never driven one to even form a non-biased opinion...of course, it doesn't help when there are actual well-known reviewers who pan the LC 250 stating it's "under-powered", which only makes me wonder what the hell they're comparing it to...because like you, I was instantly sold on my first test drive, and am still quite happy with my purchase several months and 6500 miles later.

I reserved it with 1K but with the stipulation that I WILL NOT buy if Trumps 25% tariff is placed on it. They understood and in the mean time, as the Tariff date approached, I test drove a LC/LC w/premium package. I was hooked and wanted the LC.

Aren't those deposits supposed to be fully refundable regardless?

I should also have mentioned, I paid MSRP for my truck. Was so refreshing to buy from a small dealership, they were super friendly and helpful.

Congrats on the new truck, and thanks for sharing your thoughts! I love that sand color (I actually prefer it over the LC version). My biggest complaint with the styling on the 6g 4Runner are those piano-black fender flares; gonna look sick if you body match or otherwise modify!
