Went to drive the 4R, now prefer the LC

I’m still going back & forth after sitting in both. I probably need to actually drive them though. I think the headroom & visibility in the LC make it a winner though.

I test drove a 2025 4runner TRD Off Road Premium (not hybrid version) and compared to my 2012 Trail Edition 4runner it handled very nice. Nice throttle response, felt lighter and less "bulky" than my 13 year old Trail. I have only 102,000 miles on it, all toyota maintenance including oil changes at Toyota dealer....very good shape. But, I want a new TRD Pro which cost as much as a LC Premium. My TRD order was built last week at the Tahara plant and is now waiting for a spot on a boat.

I am at an impass currently without knowing what the upcoming Tariff is going to do. I'm not paying a cent more for the TRD Pro, but there is nothing out there saying if Toyota vehicles will be assessed immediately at the port, or if it will be any Toyota that has been ordered, deposit etc., and is built would get in without the tariff.

So, I'll be test driving a LC Premium tomorrow. I can at least get my replacement for the 4runner I own now, without Tariff jacking up the price by 25%. From the comments gathered here I am even more intrigued to test drive it.

I love the cloth seats. They are like an old-school LazyBoy. There is a uniquely retro wholesomeness to the 1958 that I would not trade for leather or a HUD. The whole thing immediately reminded me of a family friend's 80 series land cruiser with cloth seats I rode in back in the day.

I do wish the 1958 had a front camera, but I think I will get better at placing it in spots over time. Skill issue as the kids say.
Same these cloth seats are super comfy! I like how quickly they heat up. I dislike HUD it bothers my eyes when driving..idk how to explain it lol.

Yeah, having owned vehicles with cloth, leather, and softex, I never understood why leather seats in particular were so popular... they get too hot in the summer, and require a decent amount of upkeep to keep them looking good and not falling apart.

I was first a bit bummed the 1958 didn't have an option for Softex (because it is closer in comfort to leather but easier to take care of), but the 1958 seats are the easily the highest quality cloth seats I've owned, and they feel nice and durable...doesn't even really compare to other cloth vehicle seats I've owned that had a cheaper, plushier feel to them. As soon as I took the test drive, I was like, "Oh yeah, these will work just fine".

Having had my 1958 for a few months now, if I was given the choice of keeping the cloth seats or replacing with Softex, (and assuming cost is no issue nor part of the equation), I'm honestly not sure which I'd choose...I may very well opt to keep the cloth.
leather seats in the summer are just god awful. Sure they look nice but they burn you and sometimes you just have to peel yourself off of those seats. Even if they have cooling seat feature…It just makes it manageable to sit in. Best thing about cloth you just hop in and go lol.

The LC won’t drive anything like the Audi on the road; however I had a Q7 for about 5 years and loved that car on the road, prestige trim with run flat tires. In that 5 years I put nearly 10k of tires on that car, and another 10k for service/tune/etc etc. never again.
