Transmission issues - Now needs replacement

I too subscribe to the more flies with honey than vinegar philosophy as I find it usually works better to build a relationship than to burn one down and you can still combine with firm boundaries so you don't walk away feeling like a doormat. You can always bring out the big guns later on if it becomes clear you're getting the runaround but it's hard to take angry words back without looking foolish and divesting a lot of your power to the other side.

But, I get it, this doesn't jive with some (maybe most) people these days when confrontation seems to be the norm and every conflict is treated like a zero-sum game. No one wants to feel like a loser. Trying to look out for your kids, even when their adults themselves, amps things up though we can rob them of opportunities to learn how to stand up and solve problems for themselves when we swoop in and go thermonuclear trying to clear the path for them.

A different approach might have been providing some judicious coaching and support from the sidelines peppered with a little humor. I get that it's a bummer if your brand new truck breaks down, you have every right to feel pissed, irritated and to go scream into a pillow. Maybe there were other extenuating circumstances not mentioned but unless someone was injured no one should feel devastated by a faulty transmission, it's not a life threatening diagnosis, and feeling it's an inalienable right to dump a load of vitriol and indignation on some random dude just because it was his turn to offer help to the next customer walking through the door is not a lesson we should be teaching to our kids. Maybe it wasn't actually as dramatic as suggested in the post, but if it was I'd feel lucky that it didn't get recorded and posted to TikTok with all the other Karen vids.

The therapist is in...

P.S. Take solace that Team Canada won the 4-Nation Tourney in an awesome overtime last night. That's some good coaching there.
Good feedback...
Dealing with car issues is another animal all together so while I take the lead here I am coaching along the way. When I said I chewed the dealership out, this might be a little exaggerated because I'm always respectful and understand reporting structures. I don't follow hockey but congrats on the win!

Are there no lemon laws in Canada? Not saying the US is perfect, but this would have qualified for a full refund or replacement (whole car) in a lot of places in the US (state-specific).

In Virginia, if a vehicle is out of service for more than 30 days, it qualifies for a full replacement. With that type of leverage, dealers and manufacturers tend to get things done faster.

I found the statement Toyota did not train the techs to fix the Landcruiser somewhat laughable. This engine and set up are in 3 of the vehicles now. We should not have to deal with BS problems but this is a vehicle. there are going to be problems crews fall out all the time all the time the world is an imperfect place! My Fav Breakfast club line! I am 55 I have only owned Toyotas my whole life 19 Vehicles some had problems out the box! Some were issues that were hard to repeat. But they never left me hanging. I understand the laws in Canada may be different but you are still dealing with Toyota and I hope your experience is the same. Mine has always been top notch. You need to be speaking tot the General Manager. Make sure they are aware of the situation and know them on a first name basis. If problems continue that is the person you need to lean on. The replacement should be more than adequate! As for a lingering problem that affects us all if it were to happen they will be forced to handle it! Just like the Tundra issue! As far as not being able to find the battery. I would immediately go to another Toyota Dealership! There are parts which are scarce. Just look at the windshield! I would hope they have you in a loaner this whole time!

I hope your issue gets resolved correctly. Your post caught my attention because I have also experienced the hard gear change. It happened to me while letting off the gas. It felt like the transmission was confused and just slammed into a gear. Other than those two incidents, the transmission works fine. Certainly not the smoothest transmission out there. My 08 Highlander was silky smooth. I purchased my LC 58 the first week of Jan 2025 and it has 2019 miles on it.

Wow! This is kinda interesting. I have asked numerous times about the Tacoma issue carrying over to the LC as its the same transmission. I have been told the significant majority of these issues are on manual transmissions in the Tacoma and the LC isn’t a full manual transmission. I had my gear shifting issues in both automatic and in manual drive modes. What does worry me is as this video mentioned is these replacement transmission are built in the US, where as I believe my original transmission was made in Japan… so I have my fingers ridiculously tightly crossed that I don’t run in to the seemingly poorer production quality of the US manufactured transmissions and torque converters.
Greetings. I have 8,000 miles on my FE LC. No issues. Did your transmission ever get resolved. You seem to be a very gracious and patient person. Peace.
