Main battery boost charge?

Is there a way to boost charge the main battery that powers the DC motor?
I don't have a full schematic yet so i don't know if anything ties into that DC circuit that could be used at the correct boost voltage.
Your thoughts?
 
Looks to me that the 12vdc battery only powers ancillary items.
Does n start the engine. Toyota is not clear on this subject. It looks like the main battery bank starts the engine via the DC in line motor. Does anyone actually know how the system works?

I don’t think you would wanna tie into that circuit. The hybrid system powers the DC motor, charges the 12v battery and runs the 120v outlet. Why do ya wanna tie into that line.

1. I want to understand how it works. I design large power systems, no big deal here.
2. I will design or develop a way to peak the battery bank, easy to connect just want to understand more.

I understand regen better i care to remember. That's not the issue.
That type battery is designed for short higher discharges and recharges.

There’s a reason Toyota chose nickel metal hydride. I can’t remember the reason as to why. I know the nickel metal has a history of longevity.
I know my battery rarely reaches 100% usually about 80%. My guess to this is to help with longevity.

That is correct. The 12v does activate everything. If that battery goes dead the vehicle won’t start. There is a 12v back up starter. This starter is used for cold weather starting and after a fill up.
 

This article may help ya out a bit. The fastest way to charge it is go down a big hill or mountain.
288vdc is easy to deal with. Will confirm lots when mine shows up in a few weeks.
Still not sold on the longer term life of the EV system. If the 550GXs were available i'd get that first. Cant get them in Ca no motors.

NMH batteries are the best choice today for this type load profile. Great for fast high discharge current, fast recharge cycles.
Heat is the enemy, we shall see how they hold up.
 
Toyota has done EVs since the mid 90s. They have the hybrid system down to a T. There are hybrids with over 300,000 miles and still running on original equipment.
 
What is becoming clear.
No 12vdc no go, end of story. Must carry 12vdc jump start battery pack.
No 288vdc battery bank, if the 12vdc is ok the little engine will start and you should be able to motor along.
