Land Cruiser vs. GX550 vs. older and other Toyotas

I thought this was an interesting video on current vs. older Toyota build standards. It won't change my mind on the Land Cruiser, but especially coming from an FJ, it gives me some things to watch for. The early FJs had their own too thin metal problem.

Is it possible Toyota made some advancements in steel quality that allows them to deliver equal or better strength with a thinner piece of metal?
