Hearing a rattle noise at low gear acceleration.

The original thread's topic was completely different than this, we're discussing rattling noises when driving - while that thread was started because upon cold start and revving his engine while in neutral - the engine shook/rattled. Toyota bought his back, scan that entire thread - there's a video he uploaded to youtube
@BKLC I’ve read every post in that other thread and the OP first noticed it while driving. He said “Well... as soon as I do and I hit the accelerator to leave the house I hear what sounds like an exhaust leak.... that's weird. I drive about 3 blocks and and then I decide to turn around and check it out from the driveway.” He’s then able to replicate the sound he had heard while driving while revving the engine in neutral.

I’m also able to replicate this exact sound while reviving my engine in neutral or driving slowly (while the engine is not fully warmed up).

The video he posted on YT of him replicating this sound while revving other LC’s engines in neutral at his dealership is the same sound I hear and that others in that thread and this thread describe hearing - whether revving in neutral or driving slowly. I can recreate that exact same sound from his video in neutral and moving. And most others in that other thread first notice it while driving slowly with their windows down. Similar to what @ryroam250 described when starting this thread. So not sure why you think these are completely different?

To me this rattling/fluttering sounded the same as what people were describing in this thread. I’m open to being wrong but these two descriptions of the sound and the scenarios in which they occur sound similar so I figured I’d point out the similarities in case people wanted to read the other thread.

This is what mine sounds like, its pretty loud. The video doesn't do it justice -

My iPhone doesn't capture it too well, its pretty loud...

This is the original engine knock that was posted in 'the hybrid that can't'.

It's completely different from my posts here, please don't confuse users.

Did you tighten your skid plate? Wondering if this is the cause of the rattle...
I checked the bolts on my skidplates that was not the cause of the rattle. The rattle is between 1500 and 2200 rpm (aprox.) It is very prominent for a few minutes at specific engine temps/conditions and only in this rpm range. It's easy to minimize the rattle with more aggressive acceleration - much more prominent at lighter acceleration. If I stop at the store and the engine cools the noise will be very noticeable for a few minutes and then get less loud as the engine gets hotter. To me it sounds like something rattling on or inside the exhaust system.

Is yours the two videos I posted above? the rattle?

Or the engine knock - posted by the user in 'the hybrid that can't'

Little google search got me this

here is what mine sounds like. Dunno if this is "normal" or not. Is this what you are hearing? youtube - 2024 LC rattle noise
I have this exact thing going on. First time rolling down windows here in AZ, but this did not do it when new. Have about 3k miles and heard it while engine etc was colder after leaving house, regular acceleration and lower gears. Was thinking it was diff or something since it was speed/rpm related. However, can duplicate sitting in garage and revving. Goes away once warmed up, thinking exhaust leak of some sort or a heat shield vibrating. Just can’t imagine this is something internal, but sound like it’s coming directly from under drivers area. Will crawl under tomorrow to listen.

So I’ve been following this thread for awhile and your description sounds like what mine has done since day one. I’ve always used Murphy USA/Speedway 93 octane, but decided to simply go back to the basics. I had 58miles until empty yesterday and decided I was going to fill up with Chevron/Shell gasoline. I put the Shell in the car and the raspy rattle at low gear and cold start rattle this morning is completely gone. I know right 😏

So far I have used mobil, Bp and the noise is still there next I’ll try shell. Btw mine was built in Tahara plant.

If you can duplicate while parked you may have better chance, I can only get it under load while driving.

Please let us know if you find it. I looked yesterday while doing the oil and with the skid pads off. I found one potential heat shield spot. Passenger side where the exhaust tube is. There are two heat shields against the bottom/firewall that come together that could rattle. I pulled one to give it a slight bend away from the firewall. This did not help the rattle noise after testing. Going to keep looking as well and have the dealer look the first time I take it in.

Also tested for the sound up north the other day on a colder morning cold start zero rattle until it was warm. So I think it is heat related with metal expanding to make contact.

Hello everyone, how are you, my name is Angelo Semorile and I am writing to you from Lima-Peru.
I probably have the 1st LC here and bought the gasoline version with a NON-hybrid 2.4 turbo engine.
I have the same rattling sound basically when cold, between approximately 1500 and 2500rpm, so I can assure you that it is not a problem with the hybrid.
I have filed a complaint with my dealership and they tell me that they do hear the sound but that it is NOTHING, obviously I am not satisfied and I have requested an official communication and a report.
I will let you know that from what I have read, no one from TOYOTA has yet stated what the problem really is (let's rule out the hybrid).
greetings

Hi everyone,

Juste created an account here to say I have the same problem as you guys. 1958 trim built at the Hino plant. Fingers crossed that it’s not too bad. Going to my dealer this week to report my problem before changing my tire to 33´s so they can’t blame it on them. I’ll keep you posted.
