Climate Control Questions

2nd trip to dealer; this time they say they found a ‘smaller than a pin hole’ leak in the refrigerant line and that there was no juice left. New line will take 2 weeks to arrive. Said they only recently knew to look for it as they found it on another one a few weeks ago. We shall see…
I cant see how a leak in refrigerant would cause the issues we have discussed here. weak air flow, too hot on set temps but still blowing cold on low.

My A/C didn’t kick on till I set the temp to “Lo”. Not 61 but “Lo”. This isn’t right. Never had this issue in my previous cars with auto hvac unit. I submitted my concerns through Toyota Brand Engagement.
Good afternoon. I received a call from the Toyota Brand Engagement representative and she told me basically that they are looking into the problem. they had the report from the tech. that indicated that there is a calibration discrepancy in all the vehicles he compared while checking my SUV.
I think that if we keep complaining and registering our dissatisfaction with Toyota because of this problem at some point Toyota will find a solution.

It gives each of us a little bit of hope.. Thank you for sharing

I think we should also add to these complaints that the air flow is very weak on 60+ too. I feel like that is under discussed on this thread. Or maybe I'm the only one that has a problem with it idk.

Well I received a response from Toyota Brand Engagement.

BLUF: They said take the vehicle in and then we'll talk to you. So unless you've wasted yours and the dealerships time with the HVAC being a pain in the ***.... Toyota has nothing to say

I also filed my complaint with Toyota and the Toyota Brand Engagement team reached out and told me to take it to the dealership. Funny enough, I have taken it twice to two different Toyota dealerships in two different major cities and got the exact same response from the service department.

"If the AC is working fine, the technician won't look at it"

I mentioned this to the Toyota Brand Engagement person that reached out and they told me to take it to a authorized Toyota dealer.

I told them I am afraid they won't be able to replicate the issue right now in TX weather. It only happens when its below 35 degrees outside.

Toyota of Irving here in the DFW area looked at mine and agreed with my complaints they just couldn't do anything about it besides call the corporate tech that comes and says its fine. BTW i posted a YT video of the AC doing this in 53 degrees here in TX. I think your estimate of 35 degrees is a little low. Just tell Toyota brand engagement that you did in fact bring it into a dealer even if you haven't or they brushed you off. I did that before I even took mine to the dealer. just say they cant fix it or something but agree there's an issue.

Received similar feedback as others from Brand Engagement:

I updated the case with asking them to reach out to my dealer so Brand Engagement remains in the communication channel

I received another call from the Toyota Brand Engagement representative and she said basically this:
"we know that the problem is there. we know that the Toyota master tech said that there is a problem but there are not sufficient complaints to warrant a Service Bulletin to be issued." She said that she was sorry this was happening to many of us but the brand is not doing anything about it because only a few owners are complaining.
I will be getting rid of this vehicle and get something else.

After reading all the posts on this subject I became worried because as explained in my previous post my car showed the same symptoms.
This morning I have focused in the Toyota A/C. I have placed a thermometer inside the car suspended from the sunroof about one foot down. With an infrared thermometer I measured the temperature on the front center AC out. I have tested diferent settings of the climate screen controls. After some trial and error I have found a setting that really makes the difference. The system works properly. The attached images shows the settings. The button in the dashboard in AUTO mode. The car was parked on a sunny place inside temperature was high. Immediately after start the engine a powerful air current get out from air outlets. The temperature of this air was 54°F. I have tested the car off road at low speed on road at 60 mph and stoped and the feeling inside has fully changed. Moreover the AC indicator has turned on automatically. The only thing that for me is not fully OK is that I need to adjust to 66°F the AC setting to obtain a confortable temperature
