Climate Control Questions

Can someone figure out how to post a poll of everyone experiencing this issue? curious to know if its a certain trim, year, aftermarket mod that could be causing this.
Everyone thats having this issue:
1st edition, LC or 1958 trim?
2024 or 2025 model?
any aftermarket mods whatsoever? lights, wiring, cargo covers, switches etc... might be as dumb as something covering a sensor.

I will say using Carista to set hvac calibration -1c is a temporary game changer. Seems to “normalize” it somewhat

For 14 dollars to mess around I think so. I have to mess around with actual temperature measurements. Haven’t figured out if there is just a calibration offset or if there is a hot/ cold mixing issue.

But for now luke warm around 67-68. Cold below and hot above

Seemed to work for me all
Morning. Set it back to zero and hot air came back. I need to investigate more but as a stop gap seems to help

OK everyone, my official update since my LC spent a week at the dealer for this issue:
Problem: AC is very hot on anything besides low

After the dealer techs took my LC apart and couldn't figure it out, they called in a master tech from Toyota corporate. He worked on it yesterday and my car was ready today. That's all they can tell me until they get the master techs notes some point in the next week or 2. I will share those once I get them. Apparently he just shows up, does his job and leaves without talking to anyone.

I am suspicious that since the temps here in DFW have risen from around 35-40 to 50-55, that it is some sort of ECU/sensor issue that wasn't resolved. That maybe the master tech just didn't notice any issue and didn't fix anything. Again, I will know more on this once I get the notes. But I feel like we have all been noticing the AC issues more with the cold front that has been sweeping across the country so perhaps it fixed it self with a little higher temps...

performance after repairs: I feel sort of like he just moved the needle at which the heater kicks on BUT my AC is definitely now way more responsive. 60-65 is pretty cool but not ice cold. 65 feels pretty ambient to me. I start to feel some heat at about 67. While 70+ is definitely hotter than whatever temp you set it at, it is not MAX heat like 60+ was before. In other words, if you set it to 75 its probably a good bit hotter than 75 coming out BUT it gets hotter the more you turn it up beyond that meaning its not cranking out max heat at all at 75+ until you actually get up to the max heat of 90 or whatever it is.

Until I know what the master tech worked on and have his notes, I am not going to make anymore complaints with the dealer. it is much better than it was before although not perfect.

****Update: service manager called, said he spoke to the master tech when he was working on my LC. Master tech couldn't duplicate the issue, he just recorded the data from the ECU and left. dealer techs COULD duplicate when they first got it.... I suspect he couldn't duplicate because the weather here warmed up so the car acted more normal OR the car acted more normal because the dealer tech had just "reset the system". Service manager said bring it back in if it starts happening again.

Do you still get hot air blowing at you if you turn it off mid way your commute? After 15 mins of running the HVAC system and getting really uncomfortable, I turn off my HVAC but somehow the car is still blowing hot air.
I’ve taken to hitting re-circ, letting the baffle close then turning the HVAC off. Seems to stop most of the air movement

(I posted this on another thread so forgive me for the duplicate) I'm sick and tired of Toyota not doing anything about this problem. If we all flood the web site with comments about this Toyota won't have any other option but to fix the problem. please go to their Brand interaction link and leave the comment. make your complaint directly to Corporate and maybe they will do something about it. this is the link: https://support.toyota.com/s/questions-comments?language=en_US

Admittedly, I live in a mild climate area but the HVAC system seems to work as expected.

On auto, if the outside temperature is colder than the set temperature, the HVAC attempts to bring the cabin temperature up. If measured outside temp is higher then vise versa. I can over ride the internal set temp by putting to low (or high) and modulatung the fan. HVAC mode (switch vs mode select knob) has a bigger effect than eco vs sport.

Either way, I have no problem turning the cabin manually into a freezer or a furnace or putting it in auto mode where it keeps in a comfortable range. So perhaps some sensors are malfunctioning in other vehicles?

There definitely are a lot of options with the different modes and tri-zone settings. The manual doesn't offer a lot of info so hard to know how to optimize for different climates.

One other quirk is the temperature always stops at 72 when traversing up or down which is annoying.

Haha. I do find that one annoying as well. “Are you absolutely certain you would like to go past 72?”

What drop down menus did you pick for the complaint? I'll fill it out tonight

I just followed the process. and after you Click next it will prompt you to enter your information and E-mail address and so on. I thought it was very self guiding and trouble free.

Apologies in advance as this question was probably asked a million times...

Does anyone know how to get A/C set as 'ON' by default, when driving in ECO?

I drive in ECO, start my car, and A/C is off - I need to press it on manually everytime

Driving in eco mode turns of the AC compressor. Try one of the other modes. (?)

Done. I just wanted to make sure I was selecting the same drop downs as you did so the complaints both hit the proper office.

Well, so much for the dynamic adjustment to ambient temperature thesis. 75 degrees out here in VA today and LC still blowing fire air on any setting but low. Maybe the number of complaints will finally spike and we’ll get a fix?

I have realized as ambient temps heat up that the AC system really doesn't blow any set temp at all. for example when its 80 outside, if you set the temp to like 75, it blows really cold never actually 75 degrees. anything below ambient temp will be very cold and anything above will be very hot. and before anyone says "it will blow hot or cold only until the cabin is the temp you set it at" that is just not true. it keeps blowing hot/cold for entire drive well beyond what cabin temp is reading. I have tested this with a separate thermometer.

They overcomplicated the AC system to the point where its now too simple in a way. you only get hot, cold or somewhat ambient depending on outside temps. at least in the warmer weather I can turn off the ac compressor and just blow somewhat normal air on low where the blower motor actually pushes out air rather than 60+ where it just trickles out.

2nd trip to dealer; this time they say they found a ‘smaller than a pin hole’ leak in the refrigerant line and that there was no juice left. New line will take 2 weeks to arrive. Said they only recently knew to look for it as they found it on another one a few weeks ago. We shall see…
