Brakes Squeal

Is there an official bulletin for this? I called my dealer and they just said to bring it in for them to check. Im really not down with some service tech trying to play discovery.

My squeal started at around 100 miles or 9 days after purchase. It rained and the vehicle sat in the driveway outside for a day. So it was a cold start, first thing in the morning after it rained. Backing out of the driveway, the vehicle break squeal was there when turning the steering wheel to the left and applying the brake.

The second time it happened, the vehicle sat in the driveway for two days, no rain this time, but it was first thing in the cold morning backing out the driveway.

I took it to the dealer having, both instances captured the loud squeal on my 4k security cameras outside & left it overnight at the dealer for them to replicate.

They were able to and have recommended replacing front brake pads and rotors, including pad shims. They had to order the parts and will call me when everything is in so I can bring it back to resolve

Parts: $571.04
Labor: $215.00
Tax: $41.40
Total approved services: $827.44

I'm wondering if the replacement parts are the same as the factory installed parts or are they using updated parts?

If they have the same part numbers then why would the factory installed ones squel ?

Today the Car Care Nut said the Toyota economy brake pads cause noise/squeal when cold and backing in reverse. The economy pads will have an AZ in the part number.

That's great news, they know what the issues is but until Toyota issues an official bulletin most dealerships won't doing anything to fix the problem.

So, I went and checked the LEXUS TSB and cross-referenced it against the Toyota Parts Online Site and the brake front kit (pads and rotors) that the Lexus TSB talk about are 04465-60380 being replaced by 04465-34040.

According the Toyota Parts Online Site, the brake pad kit for the LC is 04465-60380 which at least according to the Toyota Parts Online Site has not been superceeded by a newer part such as the 04465-34040.

Also according to the Toyota Parts Online Site, the AZ (Economy Brakes) that the Car Care Nut is referring to is one of many such as 04465-AZVP3-TM which at least according to the Toyota Parts Online Site (and many times I find that the customer facing parts site are not always accurate) does not fit the LC.

I could not find a single AZ brake kit that fits that LC.

So, I thought that I would give you all the epilogue to my drama with the brakes, I spoke with Toyota Corporate again today and the employee there said that she got nowhere with the Toyota stores in my area that she tried.

The Toyota employee was really nice and surprisingly honest, she said that while the dealers in my area are more extreme than many that she has dealt with, she said that unfortunately not enough dealers are customer service orientated. She said that even herself as a Toyota Corporate employee has received poor service from Toyota stores in her area, so when she hears stories like mine, she is sadly not surprised.

That in of itself is an argument for direct to consumer, but that will never happen as long as the laws protect the franchises and do not allow the manufacturers to pull away from the dealer model.

I mentioned to her that I had spoke with the Service Manager at the local Lexus store in my area (which happens to be owned by a different dealer group than the Toyota stores in my area) and he was willing to preform the Lexus TSB on my LC and that his warranty specialist said that she can push it through the Toyota store (far away from my area) owned by that dealer group.

She said that she would reach out to the Lexus store and see if she could help them get paid for the work and a few hours later she called me back saying that she had arranged for the Lexus store to do the brake work for me, covered by the warranty. She did add that this is a one-time courtesy as the warranties between the two brands are technically separate but her bosses were able to approve it this time.

So, my brakes will be replaced following the Lexus TSB, but the whole thing reminds me why the franchises make all the difference.

I have the reverse brake squeal too, began at 2000 mi or so, and the dealer has had it 3 times but no resolution. I have 5000 mi now. Car is 6 mos old. I opened a case with Toyota corporate and they were of no help either. Very frustrating. Crazy I know but spraying graphene wax on the front rotors cures the noise for about 2 days either no loss in brake performance.

Pretty embarrassing. Several of the neighborhood lady’s were chatting in next neighbors driveway yesterday. I backed out of the driveway. I got sympathetic smiles when the lumbering beast creaked like a rusty old ship. You just gotta laugh.

Less than 1000 miles and mine squeal every morning when I back out the driveway, so I will be interested to see how this issue develops. So far I have not informed the dealer.

Here are the part numbers that I see in the CA Lexus TSB, new part numbers for discs, pads and hardware.

21k mi and it just occurred to me I have not heard a squeal for a few thousand miles now

Currently at a Toyota Dealership for the 2nd time for them to look into my squealing brakes and didn't even think to look at this forum! My 2024 250 now has 7k miles and the brakes have been squealing (in reverse) since around 2k miles. The dealership is telling me because of the hybrid, the LC doesn't actually use the brakes under 8mph; however, there is also rust on the rotor pads. They are telling me "there is nothing we can do." 😑
