As promised my report from Blackstone, 850 mile break-in oil change.

So it looks like you're way above "universal averages" for Aluminum, Iron, Copper, Molybdenum and Silicon.

I had a Blackstone analysis done on a new motorcycle I'd purchased (2005 BMW R1200GS) and it was similarly high. My understanding is that break-in oil change analysis is always high in certain areas as the engine machines itself into shape.

It'll be interesting to see how the analysis compares at 5,000 and 10,000 miles. In the case of my motorcycle, it settled out around 15,000 miles.

It does seem like good practice to do an early break-in oil change rather than waiting 10K miles. Seems odd Toyota wouldn't make this recommendation in the owner's manual.
 
So what exactly do you guys do with this info? Is it just educational?

I've used it with most of my vehicles over the years to watch the health of the engine. Very useful to tell if you have any intake leaks or bad air filter (high silicon), unusual bearing or engine wear, coolant leaks etc. as well as whether my oil change intervals can be extended or are too long.

I find it especially useful for new vehicles to me (used) to check condition, and have found that it helps greatly with selling a vehicle (having record of maintenance and proof of internal condition of the engine).

It’s kinda feeding our OCD.. and gives us reassurance, in this day of YouTube, forums, etc, so that we can put our worry beads away. For a little bit anyway.

It seems that there is fuel dilution given the flashpoint measurement and viscosity @100C. For unnused Toyota Genuine Motor Oil 0W-20, it should be at around 8 cSt. I found this report on another forum:

Here are my result from 1k and 3k oil change. I used Amsoil 0-20w signature for the change. The metal is dropping and TBN is higher over the factory oil. IMO this is the purpose of changing the factory oil before 10k.
