A/C doesn’t seem to do anything

Just wanted to see if maybe I’m missing something before I schedule service. It was 50 degrees today, and I set the temp to 72. The A/C seems to shut itself off every time I exit the vehicle, as I always have to push the A/C button to have it displayed above the button.

Still too hot, so I turned the temp down to 68. When I’m sweaty, and driving with the window rolled down in 50 degree weather, it’s really hard to reach any conclusion other than the temperature control isn’t working. The area surrounding the center verts is hot to the touch with the temp set to 68.

Any ideas?

The thing has a thermostat. So if the outside temp is the same as the set temp my guess is you would not be cooling because the temp was achieved. I am in AZ so when it is winter we typically don't use the AC because it is so nice outside. That is my guess. I think there is also a touch screen setting you can use.

Well, just took it for another drive and with the temp set to 62, it was comfortable inside.

I was under the impression that if a vehicle has a digital temperature control, you just set it where you want it and you're done. I leave the A/C on year round, as it dehydrates the air, and helps keep the windows from fogging. Maybe they intentionally don't remember the A/C state when you power off the vehicle due to the electric compressor. Maybe it gives you an extra .1 MPG if it's off. I dunno. I just don't expect melt your face vent temperatures when it's set to 72 degrees, regardless of the outside temperature. Not after I've been driving it for an hour.

Toyota got it right with my 2013 Venza. No climate control craziness. It does exactly what you tell it to do.

There's another thread on this subject, so you're not the only one. It is kind of strange but I've gotten used to it. The craziest part is the cool box will not cool if the outside temp is "X" degrees.

ECO mode on the vehicle does dial back the power of the HVAC some as well.

Think I've figured it out. I had the fan control set to manual (which I do on my older Toyota all of the time). Apparently they use the fan to regulate the temperature, as everything works as it should when set to auto. To me, this new feature seems like a regression from what they had a decade ago, but if that's what it takes to maintain the temperature, it stays on auto from now on. Sure seems like there are a lot of "What the hell?" moments with the new Land Cruiser.
