How did Toyota pick this climate control design?

I thought all new toyotas have the flip switches now. Even my Wife RAV4 TRD Off Road has annoying buttons you got to push to adjust the fan speed.

Yeah, that’s a little annoying. Maybe they can/will update software to include it in the remote start or connect it to the rear defrost like the mirrors.
It is. At least it's in mine. Under climate, there's ability to turn on/off the rear and front defrosters.

Defrosters, yes. But there is a deicer as well. I looked in the owners manual and it’s explained on 474 and 475. It looks like it has a button on the dash as long as you don’t have the auto rear climate. If you do, and you have a heated stearing wheel, then the on/off is buried in the touch menus of the climate settings. I was mentioning that it would be nice to have an option to turn on the deicer, and both defrosters in the app for the remote start.

The deciding factor in why I went with the LC over the GX550 OT was the climate buttons instead of having to do it all via touch screen. Yes, I like rotary a bit better than the toggles, but they're both better than touchscreen climate controls.

I was not expecting to have the unpopular opinion here. Curious, why do you all find it easier to repeatedly press the button rather than spin?

Are most people just in more static climates?
I'm not generally adjusting the temp more than a couple of degrees unless there's a wild weather swing overnight. A couple of pushes up/down on the button isn't that big of a UX difference to me than spinning a knob. My Cayman also has a push up/down for climate control.

My wife's car has a knob, but it doesn't have any tactile feedback, so you can spin it and have no idea how much you're raising or lowering the temp, so you have to keep an eye on the screen, much more annoying than clicking a button up or down.

We are referring to the windshield wiper de-icer. At the lower edge of a LC's windshield, there are some orangish lines (which are heating elements) embedded in the glass............. there are two ways to turn in on............ neither of which is a physical switch.
Holy shit! I did not even realize I had this feature. 🤣
Thanks to this thread I now know where to find it.

It is amazing what you find when you read the manual......LOL
Oh, I've read the manual but my focus at the time of reading was searching for how to shut off most of the "nannie" features. If I had come across this information it did not register because I was so focused on finding the ways to shut off the warnings. But yes, agree, R.T.F.M. is a great thing with any new product. ;)

If you download the "E-manual" and use "Ctrl F" it makes life a lot easier......... The printed manual sucks.

Is the manual on the site hyperlinked? I downloaded off the app but that one is not. Sure would be nice to have a copy where you could just tap the page number in the index.

Not sure, I don't think any version I've used is HL'd. This is the one I use, probably the same as you dwld'd

Love the buttons, not an issue to reach over and hit 'em. Even the steering wheel way over there, which I'm using often with the cold freeze we're getting in NC. If you look at right hand drive models, theirs is on the left, so maybe Toyota is just trolling us.

Now if they’d just troll us with the diesel powered option!

My only complaint is how noisy mine is…on certain settings, it whistles, and others it’s just noisier than any other car I’ve owned. While maybe not the perfect layout, I prefer buttons over a screen (like in the Lexus).

Was wondering if this was just mine ...

I stuck a small piece of Gorilla tape on the underside of the fan speed button, so it’s not visible, allowing me to quickly find it by feel while driving without looking. I might do the same for the temperature like a simple braille system.

My LC has been at body shop for a month. They gave me a new Audi rental.
Audi is Screen only for everything and it sucks. Even Some seat adjustments are screen only.
you cant do anything without putting on reading glasses and taking eyes off road. (Suppose voice commands could work).
I’ll take the LC buttons and toggles over this.

UK model does not have the de-icer function - or t least it’s not there in the place someone posted above
