Darn - I was hoping that was the issue. They serviced all my brakes today. I turned the auto parking brake back on to see if the squeal returns tomorrow morning.I tried turning off the auto parking brake. This did not mitigate the issue for me. Still squeaks.
Specifically, what did they do, when they ‘serviced all your brakes’ today?Darn - I was hoping that was the issue. They serviced all my brakes today. I turned the auto parking brake back on to see if the squeal returns tomorrow morning.
Hi - sorry for the delay in responding. The service appointment record only says "Serviced rear brakes at this time. No visual signs of parts rubbing causing squeal. If squeal still present in the morning after rear brake service recommend having vehicle stay over night to be able to duplicate concern".Specifically, what did they do, when they ‘serviced all your brakes’ today?
I have sme problem 1st thing backing up. Took it in 4 1st oil change last week dealer could not replicate. Now where have I heard that before? We need a poll as to how many members this has happened to. But that’s too high tech for me.
OP here. I have now taken it to the dealership twice and the first time, they thought that maybe it was the dust shields. So they clean those and the sound came back. Then they replaced the brake pads and it disappeared for a while, but then came back. I was pulling out of the garage this morning, and my wife was standing nearby, and we both clearly heard the squeal. Unfortunately, this not seem to be a brake issue in and of itself. Are we talking about brake squeal here or something else?
Surely everyone knows what a squeaky brake sounds like, right??
I ask, because I had an intermittent AWFUL sounding harmonic scraping sound going on. I pulled off the front wheels and inspected the brakes and everything else. I pulled my dust shields back from the rotors to give a little more room (the noise sounded like a rock between the dust shield and rotor to me) and I have not heard the sound again. Not sure if I found the source of the sound yet, or not…
In reverse - beginning of the day - sounds like brake squeal to meOP here. I have now taken it to the dealership twice and the first time, they thought that maybe it was the dust shields. Yeah, in retrospect, maybe my comment was not clear. The squeal clearly happens when you apply pressure to the brake. But all of the typical things they do to try to remedy brake squeal do not seem to work.In reverse - beginning of the day - sounds like brake squeal to me
Mine did this fairly loud this week backing out of a parking spot slowlySame issue here, only mine happens with the wheel turned to the LEFT(backing out of the garage or a parking space after the car has sat for more than a few hours).
Started happening 1,500 miles, currently at 2,500 mi.
I’m assuming it’s the same root cause regardless of left vs right?
To answer the questions so far, it’s definitely not the hybrid motor. That is a soft, high-pitched noise. This is a noticeable squeal coming out of the left wheel well.
As for brake pressure, it happens when I apply more pressure than less, and usually only from a cold start, and only when I have the wheel turned all the way to the right.
I suspect it has something g to do with those three factors: cold start, wheel turned to the right, in reverse. Probably some way the pad engages with the disc. Guess we’ll see. I just dropped it off at the dealership again this morning.
Did replacing the pads fix the problem?
Hello, did this fix the issue? Thank you.Update for anyone interested in the thread. I took it to the dealership and they confirmed the noise, then said that absolutely should not be happening and are replacing the brake pads. They speculated that the pads might be a touch off and therefore make noise when the brake is not fully engaged and it’s off a cold start. We’ll see if that does the trick. The pads come in Tuesday and I’ll get them replaced then.
