I ordered all new speakers to upgrade my base stereo and was thinking of adding a powered sub under the seat. I found the JBL Nano and thought that would work but had a few questions about the install. Does anyone make a cable to tap into the factory system so I would not have to cut any factory wiring? From my very limited understanding, I need power, a remote turn on, ground, and input from the speakers. I noticed Beat Sonic has a cable for the power if you have power seats, but of course, my 1958 does not. I have not looked under the seat to see if there is any wiring but will do that tomorrow when I get over to the garage. I also did look at their Amp but had some warranty concerns due to the fact my wife has had her RAV4 in 4 times for radio issues. Just concerned if I have any problems, Toyota will try and say the amp has something to do witht he issues and deny any warranty claims.

My objective is not to create a comprehensive audio system, but rather to enhance the sound quality and add some bass response. I would have been happy with a JBL system, but that was not an option for the 1958 (I didn’t want a sunroof or leather, but a nicer radio and heated mirrors would have been perfect).

Any help on wiring, ideas, or general info is appreciated.

and heated mirrors

A bit off your original topic, but I assumed my 1958 did not have heated side mirrors, but now I'm not so sure... A few weeks ago I was driving early one foggy/dewy morning and the side mirrors were all fogged up. at one point I turned on the rear window defroster, and suddenly noticed that my side mirrors were defogging as well. As an experiment, I turned off the rear defroster, and the side mirrors fogged back up again within a couple of minutes.

There's no icon or symbol or anything on the side mirrors to suggest that it does have heated defrost, but maybe? I haven't had any opportunities to verify since that day.

I know mine did not defrost the first time I tried it, but can't say I tried it again. I may hit them with a non-contact thermometer and find out for sure.

I did this exactly but had the JBL Nano installed by a stereo shop. They charged me $150 and it was well worth it. I did the speakers myself. Mine is under the passenger seat fwiw.

I’m in the same boat. I thought the 1958 didn’t have them, but maybe they’re just a little slower than my last car. Although the manual describes the feature as “where equipped” and the 1958 is the lowest model. I’m still not sure :)
