1958 - 275 70 R18 change in mpg

How in the world are you guys getting 22+ with any tire? I'm running 16-18, most, with stock tires on FE. Maybe summer hurts with the AC blaring, but the only time I see 20+ is downhill for a long period of time.

That'll be a tough one to find as the stock Michelin LTX Trail is only 37 lbs.
The two C load tires I found in 265/70r18 or 42 and 44 lbs.
There is a stock size 32.6" SL load Toyo Open Country A/T III that is 44 lbs.
The only 33x11.5 tire I can find is Nitto Recon Grappler but it's an E load and weighs 56 lbs. Almost 20 pounds more than stock tire.
I know.. the stock tire being so light (relatively) makes this not a realistic goal. I'd like to minimize the rotational weight gain. It would seem that C load tires would be good enough for the majority of my off roading.

Yes, I don't think I'll ever be rock crawling with my new FE. If I wanted to pound on something I'd get a Wrangler or Bronco. I like that you can fit a 285/70r18 with stock suspension with a +40ish offset and have no rubbing issues. The amount of surgery required just to get 285/70r17s on my 4Runner was ridiculous. Body mount cut and trimming. I don't want to hack this truck up like the last one.

I've got a but 3,500 miles on my 1958 now, haven't reset calculator since purchase. Good mix of driving conditions. With stock tires, driving in mostly 'Normal' mode, did some 'Eco' early on. Putting in Premium 93. I am getting 23.1 mpg which has been creeping down from a high of around 24.2.

Definitely need to upgrade tires before the snow starts flying. Trying to decide between BFG KO3s and and Falken AT4/W. These poor mileage numbers I am seeing above are making me hesitate altogether. I'm not going to be doing any serious off roading, just want to be capable in snow, class VI roads, etc......maybe I should go with 265s.....save a little bit on cost and mileage?

On another note. I think the stock 245 geolanders are SUPER comfy. Really a cozy ride ripping down the highway!

I have 20s but thought I would post this anyway

I kept stock 20in wheels on my wife’s LC but went to 275/60/20 toyo open countrys in SL. It is one size larger than stock. It is a true 33 and weighs 42lbs. The tread is not as deep as an e rated tire but looks good.

I am getting 17.5 mpg on mainly city driving w a few short road trips. 2500 miles on it. Have not reset the mpg calc but put those on within a day.

So not sure how some are getting in the low 20s on mpg

I do like this vehicle but the small gas tank is a major annoyance. Making me rethink if i want the new 4runner
