Tow Hitch

I removed the tow hitch cover and put on the smaller cover with a hitch. Tip when you remove the cover there’s 2 tabs underneath that you should remove first and then pull it off.
Old post, however, I just finally received my LC. What is the easiest way to remove those two tabs underneath the hitch cover? They don't seem to want to release easily. I must not be doing something right. Thanks.

I use a hook pick from Harbour Freight, but any thin/skinny tool will work.

Thank you for your replies. I did climb under there and was able to easily pry them off.
The rear looks significantly better with the upper cover only. 👍

Thank you for this. I had no idea a smaller cover was hidden in my storage behind the seats of my vehicle. I looked at the manual about getting the big one off, and there's zero mention of the tabs on the bottom.

Yes, that is surprising they don't mention these lower tabs. If one were to follow the manual and pull too hard, you could tear the bumper cover.
This is another reason why I always make it a point to never read the owner's manual.

I can't remember if the small cover came with 2 push pin connectors or if I reused the ones from the big cover ... but yeah it looks good with the small cover

For anyone with a 1up bike rack - i used a wheel lock as my hitch pin. I emailed them to ask about this and they said that it is the same pin just longer so that should be perfectly fine to use as a hitch pin.

Do you have a photo or link of the wheel lock?

Just discovered the hitch pin for both my 1up and a new Reno shackle hitch are too short. Don’t order the locking pin with it, you’ll save yourself $10. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CCRMCPFD?th=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=mrrum75-20&linkId=feab2063b9aafcbf334230bb18b8f757&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl

Here's the email I got from them when I asked if the wheel lock was sufficient:
Thank you for reaching out. We have started to see thicker hitches like this with Toyota. We are not sure why they are making them thicker like this. If you would like you can use a longer pin, like a wheel lock pin. 1/4 Turn Replacement Pin

I believe you only need the pin, since it will work with the lock from the hitch pin. I had ordered a set of wheel locks with my rack initially, so the wheel pin with lock is this: Wheel Lock (QR/HD)

That looks so much better! Did the smaller cover come with the vehicle? I wasn’t aware of any other cover aside from the big main one.
Yes, I got the standard large cover and the half cover was in the Land Cruiser when I purchased it.

Did you look in the storage compartment behind the rear seats?
U mean in the trunk under the rug? I check there and didn’t see. I didn’t know there was a compartment behind the rear seats too
