They did. It is considered “at fault” since I was the only driver which means there will be an extra premium for years to cover the $9k. I’m not sure how much it will be since the case is not over yet

I'm curious if you told them that it was on a dune, or if it happened on a paved road? I'm surprised the covered it if it's the former. They did. those are not skid platesno mine is a black thin one that looks bent/munched now
You buy a land cruiser and then go try to break it playing in sand? Having a 4wd vehicle means you can get stuck farther out than a guy with a 2wd vehicle. These aren't toys. You don't go playing in sand when you have to let air out of your tires. You go in hard packed sand to cross the sahara desert, not soft sand, and even then you carry sand ladders. I have had 4 land cruisers. One had a winch. I used it to pull a vehicle that was on its side back on it's wheels. Never used it for me. I had a 2005 stuck in snow on my driveway and had it jerked out by a buddy. I was driving too fast and the snow had turned to ice in a freeze. So stuff happens but don't go looking for trouble. That's how to find it.Hi guys. I’ve had my LC for 5 weeks and have gone on medium and easy dirt trails mostly since I’m an OR noob. On Saturday I went to a day class at the Pismo dunes. Such a fun day—see pics. However, near the end I got an engine light on, leaking coolant and several other errors. I had to drop it at the local dealer and rent a car to get home.
My guess is that because we had to air down to ~8 psi the little clearance of the LC was reduced even further. Then to get up dunes I had to gun it, which means that if there was a rough spot at the bottom it rammed into the skid plate before heading uphill. It looks like this happened enough that it bent and must have munched the radiator. I’ll post what I hear back from dealer.
Also the little cover for the hitch fell off right away…
I’m on 20” wheels and the stock LC
tires. Would switching to 18” wheels and bigger tires help a lot?
Well yes, they are toys for some folks. Absolutely agree, expect damage if abused/misused.You buy a land cruiser and then go try to break it playing in sand? There are thousands of people who do light, medium and hardcore off-roading. I've aired my tires down too many times to count, gotten stuck numerous times and paid for parts that probably would finance a small country. Most, not all, understand if they push beyond their skill set, something will probably break and end up costing money ........ But the memories...... priceless! You buy a land cruiser and then go try to break it playing in sand? Having a 4wd vehicle means you can get stuck farther out than a guy with a 2wd vehicle. Interesting, it sounds like the fellas in this video ran into the same issue under similar circumstances.
