Speaker on Cargo Door - seems the speaker grill is there for one but no sound from it?

Thank you to everyone here who is far more knowledgeable about these things than I am. I was just looking for some good bass with my music.

I pried the panel & checked my 1958 and the speaker (subwoofer?) is connected. But I agree that there is no sound whatsoever coming from it, even if the bass is turned all the way up in settings. The LC trim is apparently different in that regard. The good news is that Chancellor confirmed that an 8" subwoofer will work in the opening, although I am still confused on whether he used the existing speaker grill (which he said was not removable) to mount the replacement Morel subwoofer. Chancellor, please reply? Also, how are you powering the replacement? Did you add an outboard amplifier?

@chancellor ’s audio system upgrade is described in their thread here -
LC Trim base level stereo

Can you try using one of the tone generators, either on your phone or laptop? I am curious where something like a 60hz tone comes from on the 1958

I only replaced the woofer in the hatch, I did not modify the hatch or grill at all. so with the trim installed it looks stock.

The woofer is powered by the OEM stereo. On the Land Cruiser trim, the speaker connection in the hatch is hot, I am not sure what options you would have if that is not the case on the 1958.

I didn't try the test tone generators, just relied on sound and touch to confirm no signal, as other 1958 owners have done. I will say that the Beatsonic amp that I installed has an available adapter to run inline with their OEM adapter. The available adapter allows high level (speaker) outputs to be input to an amp to supply power to a subwoofer. An earlier thread indicates that Beatsonic is aware of the issue of the unpowered hatch subwoofer, and may be working on a simpler solution to power it. Cheers!

my car is due for its 5k so I took in to a Toyota dealership today and one of the things I asked them to check was that speaker in the back as there is zero sound coming from it. My car is actually there overnight because they’re trying to figure it out.

I am very curious to hear what Toyota tells you after an overnight stay for the speaker. "The missing speaker".

I believe Toyota forgot to install the woofer in all of its 2024 land cruisers.🤔

UPDATE: sorry it took this long for me to update but that’s how long it took to get the equalizer in. Yes, it’s not a speaker or subwoofer, it’s a noise cancellation speaker that also has an equalizer.

I don’t understand noise cancellation for what?
I need to hear things around me. So yeah that’s all it was. They even didn’t know anything about it and had to make a few calls.

Well that's good information.

Thank you for following up on this thread.
I admit I am lost too. Equalizer? I thought an equalizer adjusts sounds. But there is no noise because this speaker cancels noise. 🤔😂.

I have the JBL system and there seems to be very little sound coming from the woofer in the cargo door. It seems most of the bass comes from the door speakers.

Same here. Overall really disappointed in this system. I had the JBL in an 08 Tundra and the upgraded Alpine in a Gladiator and they both blew this thing out of the water. To me it is very lack luster. It’s hard to describe but it just doesn’t seem to have a full sound and everything sounds like it’s coming from in front of me. The bass also is pretty pathetic. Whereas with the other two systems I felt enveloped by sound and could feel the bass.
