Show us your LITS (LandCruisers in the snow)

You could get lucky and the weather might be fine, but there are so many areas it could get bad I also couldn’t recommend making that drive in December with any of the stock LC tires. I wouldn’t do it without some at least 3 peak rated.
I've been searching this all over the internet forums. Most people said watch out for big snow storms before heading out, I25 gets treated pretty quickly if anything.
Was thinking getting some chains as back up, but somehow the owners manual doesn't recommend putting on chains.
I see you are from CO, are you planning to get chains, if so, any recommendations?

No on the chains, I put a set of KO3’s on the LC and Blizzacks will be going on our other car.

Drove in the snow today, about 5 inches of snow and slush. The most important thing is that the LC did great even with the OEM Michelin tires. It went through the slush while changing lanes as if the slush was not even there. Very stable and no slipping.

My only complaint is the safety warnings. Once the cameras and sensors get blocked with snow, which took about 5 minutes, the car just cycled through all the warnings on the dash which is incredibly distracting. You would think once it tells you once and all the amber lights go on saying that the safety features are disabled it would stop cycling through the warnings telling you to clean off the sensors. I ended up turning everything off but it still kept one warning up on the dash, but at least stopped cycling through all of them.

How has everyone else’s experience been driving in the snow now that we finally got a good snow in Colorado?

Do you think the parking sensor mute button would help stop all the warnings? It’s to the left of the steering wheel next to the fuel cap and fog light switches.

It stopped one of the warnings but not the rest. I have turned everything off, so it does not scroll through all the warning which was the most distracting but one still comes up.

Glad to hear the stock tires performed well. I have a trip coming up in December from Dallas to Denver. Was debating if I should upgrade the stock tires, but your words gave me a little confidence.
I also heard good things about the stock Toyo at3 tires on GX550.
Either that or KO3s are on my list .

The reality is that we are all scared of the stock tires but really have almost "0" reviews and experience with them. But at least in my short experience they worked very well.
 
The parking support brake slammed on when I drove through a semi deep mud puddle yesterday. I assume water splashed on the sensor and I hope that it doesn’t do that above 8mph. No snow yet in Maine but I got my blizzaks on.

Agree 100%. Most people just swap out stock tires without driving much. I was pretty surprised to see that stock tires are M+S rated.

Yes the stock Dunlops do have a soft compound that are probably ok in the winter but the tread is not very deep. They will not compare to a dedicated winter tire on snow/ice. Neither will any other AT.
 
😂 that sounds good to me! It’s way too hot here. I grew up in North Dakota so I’m used to driving in white out conditions lol
What in the world am I to do? Don't have to put it in 4wd like my old 4Runner. Ready to try out the Michelin Trails. All we have gotten here in NW MT is bad forecasts from the weather guessers. Yesterday's snow advisory was a non event. Still waiting for the white stuff. Log haulers are still running product down the county road in front of us.

They provide weather information for people in the ag business. They are lengthy forecasts but once you watch a few you get a feel for where to fast forward to get the meat of the information you need. He's traveling right now so the video you would want to watch is yesterday's forecast from November 5th to get an idea of how he forecasts. They release Canadian Prariie forecasts as well. I watch the main forecast with Eric when he posts them. Very helpful when planning a trip or event outdoors. Actually, today's update on the Canadian Prairie paints a pretty bleak picture with limited cold and snow in your neck of the woods, at least into December.

I wonder why Michelin didn’t get their tire offering for the Land Cruiser Three Peek certified?

I am looking for a tire shop that sipe the Michelin OEM tires that came on MIss Daisy.

I siped the OEM Goodyear tires back in 2007 that came on my ‘06 Avalanche when I lived in Idaho. That thing never slipped an inch on snow and/ice going to and from the snow slopes out there.
 
Were you using snow rates tires?
I’m planning to drive from Dallas to Denver mid December. Wondering if the stock Michelin tires are safe enough even the car has full time 4WD.
if you want to drive you will be fine with the stock tires if you take proper precautions in areas that arent ideal. On that drive you would be dealing with more ice than deep snow. Slow down and you will be fine. Excessive speed is the cause of most winter issues. You are not going to get THAT much better traction with KO3's. In fact I would wager the stock tires are better on ice than the KO3's. Dont let my AZ location fool you. I spent over half my life living above 6,000 feet. Mostly in colorado.
 
A snowy afternoon in Santa Fe. The Landcruiser handled the drive home as if I was on dry pavement.

Just last week I put on some Terra Grappler G3s. Excellent tire; very quiet on pavement and so far good in the slush. This morning I'll be dealing with some snow covered roads and I expect them to handle well.
 
If you want the best weather forecasting I have come across for North America with insight into what drives the weather patterns, check out Eric Snodgrass from Nutrien Ag Solutions on youtube. They provide weather information for people in the ag business. They are lengthy forecasts but once you watch a few you get a feel for where to fast forward to get the meat of the information you need. He's traveling right now so the video you would want to watch is yesterday's forecast from November 5th to get an idea of how he forecasts. They release Canadian Prariie forecasts as well. Thanks Trailman. I will check it out. We are forced to watch Spokane news/wx here even though in a different time zone Thanks to the FCC and YouTubeTV or whoever decided NW MT is in the Spokane viewing area. Our weather we get from E. Washingon a day or two later. The fronts we get have to cross 2 mountain ranges so whatever we get is usually somewhat diminished. Reliable way to catch the weather here is to track the jet stream latitudes. Meteorologists accurately predict the arrival of "Yankee Clippers" coming in from Canada. The rest is pretty much a crap shoot.
