LC 250 Hate = It’s REAL

People lusting after diesels have never driven them with regularity. I'd never own one as a personal vehicle. The hybrid 4 is a great power train and I think it'll prove out over time.
Yeah everyone wants 70 series until they have to drive 75mph for 2 hours with a few onramps and merges.

My LC replaced a Bluetec diesel that I had been driving for 10 years. I miss 30+ and 500+ miles cruising range on a AWD SUV. Cheap biodiesel from truck stops was nice on long trips too. I would be happy to drive a Toyota diesel if it was still a viable option in the USA. The JDM diesel LC250 is reported to have 900km/560mi cruise range, but of course has a lot less power than iForce MAX.

Funny that the LC gets a lot of hate here, but I see mostly love for it in Australia. Those guys beat the crap out of the LC 250, so I trust their word more than the guys we have reviewing them here. I get a kick when they talk up Rams and fords, even though we all know Ram is one of the least reliable trucks out there. The Aussie guys still have some complaints that I find valid, but they generally give the 250 high marks.

There are some of us, like myself, who have wanted a Prado for years, rather than a bloated, heavy, fancy-pants LC. I still remember sitting in a FJ40 at the farm implement dealer in 1972, checking out the quaint "Pocket" lettering on the glovebox and the design/build of a vehicle not far removed from the Ford tractor also on display. We drove IH Scouts back then and they were roomier and more comfortable than the FJ40, but the Toyota was definitely a step up from the CJ5 at the time.

What I appreciate about the current LC, especially in "base" form, is that it is closer to that FJ40 than most of the newer so-called "off-road" vehicles available today.

BTW, the farm implement dealer eventually morphed into a 100% Toyota dealer.

Sounds like High School where students are trying to build confidence in a world where social media encourages comparison culture, validation through Likes, body image issues, overemphasis on appearance and popularity.
Stop seeking validation. Enjoy your ride and sleep well knowing you have a nice ride. I do. Haters will hate because they are jealous.

i've owned my LC for 3 months now, and I can say the the people i interact with regarding this vehicle are all in love with it and want one themselves. I do not get any sentiment from people like what's out there on social media. Thumbs up every day from random strangers.

I cannot even comprehend giving a damn about social media, it's approval or influence. I came full circle on my opinion of the new LC but without their FB, virtual life-having keyboard engineer's opinions. I'm actually glad the mouth-breathers successfully ran their new LC smear campaign because it made it possible for me to negotiate a below MSRP price on the greatest 4WD from the greatest auto maker of my era.

Nice puppy!

1. Yeah, that's a Toyota thing not limited to the LC... it's like you need a cheat sheet to figure out what all the acronyms are

2. Don't necessarily disagree, but I understand that the electric hybrid motor, and powertrain in general, is primarily tuned for providing additional torque and HP, particularly at the low end of RPMs. I've definitely noted the best MPG at highway driving, with speeds constant at 40-70 mph...I wouldn't necessarily want the powertrain tuned for better economy over performance, but perhaps ECO mode in particular could provide better city fuel economy for those that want that.

3. I feel like the Land Cruiser line has never been one to get too "experimental" or even all that varied when it comes to colors...I wouldn't be surprised if the some of the "premium" color options like heritage blue and trail dust get replaced by other options in future model years, but wouldn't ever expect for there to much variety outside of the standard black, white, and grey options aside from that.

Honestly, I think this is "mistake" a lot of the more negative reviewers make, comparing the current Land Cruiser 250 to the outgoing 200, when the 250 is a "Prado", and thus fits more into the same market segment as the 4Runner. I don't mean that in a negative way either...I've always been more of a "4Runner guy" than a "Land Cruiser guy" (though my wallet has always been a factor in that as well).

I prefer the Land Cruiser 250's understated look over the new 4Runner's, and also prefer the full time 4WD...but was definitely shopping both. I never would have even considered a 200 series Land Cruiser or Lexus LX.
My comment about hybrid mode ... I like what the vehicle has ... it is definitely tuned for performance though .. if the eco mode switch would focus more on eco and less on performance, the user can choose what they want and get a few mpg and range out of it at the expense of performance .. I still love the vehicle .. my only complaint so far though is when I start it up in the morning .. the first shift between first and second gear is really rought,, then that entire day it is smooth ... not sure what that is from..

I have noticed this too. Glad to know it's not just ours!
