Running Boards/Steps Options

Images of attachment point and connector here - Its 3 brackets with 2x 12mm bolts each. The mounting holes are on all trims.

the lights are controlled by connectors I1 and I2, which are also available on all LC trims. These harnesses are linked to the door light controls, so if the puddle lights in the doors are on, these lights are on. In trims where the connector isn't used, its tucked up into the wiring harness with a plug over the cover.

That will definitely simplify the wiring when I put on some AMP research retractable running boards. (yes I know they aren't offering them yet)

Do you think the retractable ones from a GX550 will work on the LC’s?

I am having the hardest time finding the part number / diagram for the OEM running boards. Did anyone find them and can share a link?

It doesn’t look like they’re available for purchase yet, I can’t find a dealer part number in any of our Toyota systems

Thank you. That explains it.

Hi there, any way you can share the part numbers for the plugs that come in Land Cruiser 1958 and FE? I have the midtrim with the running boards and will swap them for rock sliders, but cannot find the part number of the plug to protect that connector once the running boards are removed.

Looks like it’s part number 90980-09871 for the plug

They should fit, I bet they're going to be spendy.
Fwiw I’ve seen a few videos on the gx where folks didn’t love those running boards. People said they were too thin and too short - didn’t extend far enough back toward rear wheel.

I’m holding out in hopes AMP makes some retractable ones OR EOD tells us his hack (taco auto running boards) works…

Thanks. It seems that this part number corresponds to a tiny rubber plug that would go into each of the empty pins of a dummy plug to cover the whole connector after the running board is removed? Maybe I have to buy a male connector and then of these plugs per side.

I just ordered the regular mudguards for my FE. They did not have a kit created…. So we ordered everything separately.. right down to the bolts… can’t wait to see the gx power board price… but I’ll find out tomorrow.. hopefully.

Had to phone another engineer friend - the part number for the male connector with the plugs is 82821-30600. not sure why TIS shows the wrong part number.

I priced the gx 550 boards from Lexus. Let’s just say.. they don’t ever expect to sell any. Not including installation. I bought 2 sets.

Well there's that. I once thought it might be an option if my AMP project didn't pan out. If it ever stops raining I'm going to start measuring the Taco to see if they' swap over to the LC.

Ok! I will message you on direct chat. Also, are there two versions illuminated and regular running boards? As long as I can bolt it to my 1958, I am good. Thanks!
I am also interested as I have and FE with rock rails. Please, where are you?

Thanks! I ended up going a different route rather than getting the parts from Toyota since it's much more expensive that way. They Charge about $5 for each plug (6 needed) and those are like 10 cents when gotten from wiring specialists.

For anyone interested in Replacing their factory running boards with non OEM rock sliders, you will need to plug the connectors for the running board lights. You'll need the following

2 x connectors - Sumitomo TS025-3P
6 x connector plugs - Sumitomo TS025-PG.

I ended up ordering the parts from a website that sells OEM electrical connection parts for about 10$. If I would have ordered from the dealer it would have been 4x more.

Attached is the instructions from Toyota when replacing the running boards. Shows how to assemble the connector with the plugs and the procedure overall.

Our First Edition came with a set of rock rails. There is a LC few features my wife is not liking, and the lack of a running board step was her biggest complaint. I also checked with the dealership and as mentioned he could not find a part number for the OEM basic running boards. I found a set of take-off Predator Drop Steps on FB MP, they are better, but she doesn't care for them either. Waiting for better aftermarket options.
