Roof Rack Options and Load Ratings

Do these roof racks really mess with fuel mileage? thinking maybe slightly.... Im debating getting a short version or the Victory.

Hey Folks!

I am wondering about adding bars to the LC/LC OEM Roof Rack (mine came with none installed).

Does anyone have confirmation that adding multiple bars raises the static weight capacity? This seems reasonable to me, given that other racks have much higher limits (so the roof must be able to hold it) and that the 165lb rating labeled on each OEM bar seems super low.

I have a Roofnest Falcon Pro (which is ~180lbs) and it has it's own crossbars on top and mounting points for an awning. So I am looking at a total max weight between 200-250lbs.

If I spread that over 4 OEM crossbars, does that seem reasonable?

Thanks!

C

I'm joining the big rack debate for the LC250. Sherpa, Prinsu, Victory and Westcott are the 4 I have in play. I just can't tell what would ideally fit the bill. Want to have the ability to maybe at a RTT, and awning, which they all seem to be fit for. How are folks making their decision between the options? Thanks!

Sherpa or OEM for me due to the mounting blocks used by both. Just me but I donโ€™t want to rely on silicone/rtv sealant to waterproof the mounts.

Anyone get the 3/4 length victory rack installed yet? I'd love to see some pictures

Just got the Victory Short rack yesterday. Did the install today. Looks pretty good. I will send some more photos and more thoughts tomorrow.

Here's my take on the new Victory 4x4 Short Rack for the LC 250. Lead time turned out to be 4 weeks plus shipping. Customer Service was very responsive and helpful during ordering and installation. Packaging for shipping was great. Fit and finish is excellent. Installation straightforward with good video (based on the GX550) on website for the full rack, with mention of short rack differences. Rack looks great with a tapered profile and grey side accent piece. All stainless hardware (all black available for extra cost). Mounting brackets fit factory holes perfectly, but only utilize the middle and rear mounting locations. The front bracket sits on rubber bumpers. Overall, seems very rigid and solid. Crossbars have dual T-mount rails. Lots of accessories available for mounting RTT and overlanding equipment. We will be taking a trip down to Ashland next week so will be curious to see if there is any change in mileage or increased road noise.

Iโ€™m liking the Rhino Reconn rack. Looks unique compared to others, but hoping they offer some kind of accessories that mount to it. Have to consider if I like their cross bars or not.
Rhino has a list of accessories that easily mount on to their racks.
I'm waiting to see if they will offer a 3/4 that attach to the oem roofrails ( the roofrails comes standard on the Altitude - Australian Off-road model).

Looking forward to hearing how it impacts road noise and mileage. Did you have anything on the roof before? I have the fe rack which is awesome for utility but bad for noise.

I have the 1958 trim, so started w naked roof. So far, on short highway trips, noise is noticeable but not bad. Will see about mileage on longer road trip next week.

So my mileage average has dropped from 23 to 22 mpg. However, I also just upgraded my tires to 265 70R 18 Wrangler RTs from the 245 70R 18 Yokohama Geolanders that came on my 1958. I see now why the FE trim owners report lower mpg than the 1958.
