“Queensland family ‘stranded’ after Toyota ‘rejects warranty’ on modified LandCruiser” News Article

Saw that. Tough to comment since they didn't reveal the mods, and ultimately the cause of the denial.

In the photos it is clear that they chopped off the back half and retrofit it as an overlanding rig. I dont see a scenario where any car manufacturer is going to to warranty any defect in a vehicle that has been that altered from its original state even if it is a common practice. One would hope that the LC could handle. it.

That’s pretty epic. I drove around Australia twice. Second time in a 105 series LC. Had a car fire and various oil leaks in the 105, but never needed a tow truck until my 2024 FE. At least Toyota gave me $300 for being in the shop over the weekend 6000km from home!! Thanks ECP.

For some reason beyond me, the link doesn’t work. Bu t being denied warranty work is the main reason that I try to keep my rigs stock, until they are out of warranty. Even the tires and wheels that I use will be the stock size.

That thing looks heavily modified. Wonder if they did anything to the engine / induction system.

Man, looks like they added a shit ton of weight to the vehicle with just the platform and enclosure. Plus all the gear for the trip. I know nothing of the specs on an LC300 but there are mods and then there are MODS. Then there is the skill factor of the person doing the mods as well as any input from the Government on what the manufacturer has to warranty.

Lots of factors in play here.
