New from UK

My dealer just contacted me to say that Toyota have responded on the towbar issue that I raised to say that nothing is automated when you plug a trailer in. Settings need to be manually changed. I have asked for clarification on what settings, other than the auto braking button to the rhs of the steering wheel.
Me too just this minute!! This is shit I would consider that these vehicles dangerous because the items that you have to disable can be detrimental to towing as you may forget to do it the lane keeper and cross lane assist can and will cause trailers to sway etc it’s happened to me

Hello this is not good enough i,m raising a case directly with Toyota I have an email telling me the same and will not be fobed off, this sort of this ie disableing certain stuff when a trailer is attached is basic stuff i,m not standing for it , this is a premium vehicle

Hello KevD And all These are the 9 YES 9 !!!!! things you must disable manually when Towing a Trailer TAKEN FROM THE MANUAL -----
1/ LTA Lane Trace Assist
2/ LDA Lane Depaature AlerT
3/ Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
4/ Cruise Control
5/ BSM Blind Spot Monitoring
6/ Toyota Parking Assist
7/ RCRA Rear Cross Traffic Assist
8/ RCD Rear Camera Detection Function
9/ PKSB Parking Support Brake
NONE of the above Auto Disable when your trailer is attached the car DOES NOT KNOW IT HAS A TRAILER ATTACHED AL ALL
It does not know it potencialy has THREE AND A HALF TONS BEHING IT !!!!!
What if us Humans forget to disable one or more of the 9 items ????
I have had experience of doing just that the LTA and LDA if not disabled can and have caused very dangerouse Trailer Sway with me Towing about 2.5 ton again I think these vehicles are dangerouse to Tow with Ive been Towing vehicles for over 30 years.
Toyota have stated in there words " The customer will need to disable the appropreate assistance systems when using a trailer "
NO mention of the fact there are 9 to disable !!!! and I think its every time you get out of the car and back in maybe to get a drink etc. will check this.

That’s ridiculous Dave. If the car can’t do it automatically why can’t they at least have one single trailer setting in the car settings screen that does it all for you?

Yes Mate send me your email ill send you the email i have sent to Toyota UK and you can put it on here because I dont know how to

Dave’s email response to Toyota, posted on his behalf, about the towbar settings issue as follows:

“Dear Toyota /Kam

As you are aware the saga regards the Towing electrics is not resolved and I will not accept your answer sent to James Stenenson of Toyota Stourbridge I would point out firstly that the comparison I brought to James attention was only a guide as to what is a normal function of any vehicle when it recognises a trailer is attached all be it it was an LC 250 in the US it clearly shows this vehicle in the Us recognising the trailer on You Tube TRD Jon reviews

Also there is another You Tube review with Driving Sports TV review were the LC 250 does NOT recognise the trailer is attached !!!

I realise you will not take any notice or guidance from You Tube never the less its there and a fact.

So according to Toyota in the Toyota manual there are 9 functions we must disable when a Towing a Trailer yes 9 !!!!!!! and every time you get out and back into the vehicle (say for a rest stop)

1/ LTA Lane Tracing Assist

2/ LDA Lane Departure Alert

3/ Dynamic Cruise Control

4/ Cruise Control

5/ BSM Blind Spot Monitor

6/ Toyota Parking Assist

7/ RCTA Rear Cross Traffic Alert

8/ RCD Rear Camera Detection Funtion

9/ PKSB Parking Support Brake

Really Toyota !!

I consider these Vehicles NOT fit for Towing and dangerouse for Towing anything let alone potentially putting 3.5 tons behing it and the vehicle does not know its there unless the driver disables 9 functions manualy as we are Humans and could forget the 9 functions your manual states to disable. and even then the vehicle does not actually know its there.

I suffers a bad experiance this week regards very bad trailer sway which I now know was caused by the LTA and LDA functions not being disabled I was Towing aprox 2.5 tons and the vehicle caused the trailer to sway aggressively due to the LTA and LDA which is why the manual states these must be disabled NOTE the Trailer Sway Control did not work at all it never came up on the dash as it should when trailer sway is detected BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DID NOT KNOW IT HAD A TRAILER ATTACHED !!!!

There is a duty of care issue here for Toyota.

Note the Towing wiring loom supplied by Toyota is also wrong / faulty as it has its own stand alone ECU and buzzer which do not work at all no indication that the trailer is attached on the dash etc and no buzzer sound when indicating so why is there a buzzer and an ECU in the wiring ??? again the Dealerships do not know !!!!

This problem / fault needs addressing now Not in the future due to safety and the duty of care to your customers

I will sit there disabling all 9 functions when I Tow but it makes me wonder what is the piont of all these wonderfull safety features when we are told to disable them ???? is there a contrevention against current legislation regards the ever evolving safety features vehicles have to have now ?? is Toyota wide open legally ??

Regards”

Had my first trip in the LC - 4 hr drive north and 3 hr 30 back - mainly M1 in quite heavy traffic with a lot of road works with average speed cameras - then had 45 mins or so over the hills to the hotel

Very happy - I actually like the tech when there are speed cameras everywhere as long as I have turned off the beeps - the radar cruise is very good

Weirdly I am loving the feel of the wheel and the weighting of the power steering - feels great

The ride quality isn’t great on bab back roads and it does track a bit and crash over the bad surfaces but it’s manageable

Plenty of power with the low down torque pulling nicely - I don’t mind the noise if the engine - it’s not a V8 growl but it’s ok

Need to sort the in cabin storage (need a tray for the armrest cool box - can’t find any yet on Amazon for the cool box edition) and get used to the lack of a split tailgate - lack of lights in the tailgate and get comfortable with the arm position on the window - currently find it a bit uncomfortable

The panoramic roof is great

Really pleased with the trunk liner and rubber mats and my dog box and platform arrangement - still a few tweaks to make here and there

Got 500 miles on the clock now and have a 1000 mile trip next weekend up into Scotland to get more used to the LC

The Aussie models seem to have extra towing kit - just saw a Ronny Dahl vid and he pointed to Tow Haul button - seems the UK model has some of the towing stuff deleted

Hello FT it could all be down to the Tow haul button ???? what is Toyota doing ?? so much guessing i,m really fed up of it now

The Aussie models seem to be what they are bringing to the UK - diesel with 48v added battery

The loss of boot space in the 5 seat version is signif and the 7 seat is …..well it’s daft

I think that they have shot themselves in the foot with both hybrid designs, both 5 and 7 seat versions. Having the spare on the rear would have avoided that, but the design of the rear hatch is wrong for that now.

I like the 2.8 diesel - I am coming from a 4.4 V8 but it’s ok - no real interest in the 2 engine approach - to me it makes no sense and is plainly transitional

They will probably make EV battery tech work when they can reduce weight and the need for so much cooling - whether it is really environmentally friendly properly assessed is debatable - if you look at images of lithium mining and it’s processing in what were pristine areas of rainforest and factor in the limits on the ability to recycle batteries - they will probably improve it but it’s a long way away from perfected in 2024 as the battery pack hump perfectly illustrates

Yes and in a vehicle thats widely used for towing well done Toyota !! and look they get a Tow bar as well thats behind the cover great we pay the most and get the least again and again and again.

It lifts the idle rpm on the engine , it allows the engine to warm up more quickly in cold conditions as soon as the engine reaches temperature it will disable. (Or it did on the 150 series! )

So like an old school “choke” ??
Similar outcome ,a choke changed the fuel mixture, less air more petrol. This is like having your foot on the throttle very slightly all the time. It’s a Toyota thing, every one. I have had has it ,under confusingly different names ! It really helps when you are running everything when its frozen so AC ,lights as it keeps maximum power running through the electrical system. It will only be enabled when the outside temp is low.

Morning everybody

I see quite a few posts about “transmission issues” with the US petrol hybrid - is there any reason for those of us in the UK with the pure diesel engined version to be concerned or is our transmission different - apologises if that is a stupid question

Second stupid question of the morning

How do I make my settings take ? When I go to the road sign recognition and click on “notification” I can bring up “visual” (instead of audible and visual) but I am failing to lock that in even for the drive I am making (I know I can’t make a permanent change)

Am I messing it up by coming out by using the “back button” on the wheel - very frustrating - with the HUD working and the notifications in visual only I don’t mind it but when it’s beeping at every change in speed limit and whenever I exceeed by 1 mph it’s not so good
