Hearing a rattle noise at low gear acceleration.

I just had this exact same rattle. It was stop and go and only happened when holding the brake and not moving. It went away as soon as I started rolling again. The rattle was very loud. Sounded like the passenger dash was going to rattle off, but clearly coming from the engine somewhere. It happened several times in a row before I hit the freeway.

Did you ever find out what was causing it? I only have 250 miles.
Weak in me to the asylum nonamer.

I have experienced this sound. It does not seem to be of concern. The mechanicals make a number of sounds. Considering the technology and relative complexity in the drivetrain, I’m not worried.

Update I have not received any real updates from Toyota. If anyone gets an actual explanation or knows exactly what is causing this please update this thread. It will be interesting to see if the new 4Runners with the hybrid have the same issue.

There is an open TAS case and FTS has reported this to engineering.

I have found another video of the issue from inside the engine bay.

Is anyone hearing a rattle noise at low gear acceleration?? It disappears going into 2nd gear or +25mph.
I thought I was the only one feeling it and hearing it even from the inside. It sounds like gurgling more than a rattle to me though at first to second gear. But yes, on the 3rd gear, it goes away. After seeing the video posted, it's not completely similar though.

Could it be because the engine is Direct-Injection type?

I have an LC250 Prado non-hybrid version by the way.

I also experience a downshift jerk coming from a slow down just before completely stopping.

Hello guys,
Same here. Same noise.
Went to the dealership. Tried the director’s diesel 2024 prado. Same noise but less noisy.
They have no solution.
When you buy such a car at such price, this kind of sound should not happen.
If there is no solution i’ll sell mine yo buy a petrol one ….
Please keep us updated if any of you comes up with a solution

this video is a perfect example of the sound my 2025 makes. starting to hate driving it in the mornings... but it's mostly fine the rest of the day as long as everything is warmed up.

My 2024 sounds exactly like this mostly around 2,ooo ~ 2,500 rpm - it's not normal and I hope they have a solution soon- thanks for posting hopefully this will help Toyota find a solution.

I also have this noise that started at 1000 mile mark on a 2025. Worse with cold weather. Used to go away after warming up but now constant on longer drives. Sounds like a flapping/fluttering noise like described by others. Did anyone find a fix?

I had to get a bunch of repairs done on my car, windshield + glove box replacement, etc...

figured I'd have them take a look at the rattling noise. remember, there are multiple threads and different types of noises...

the tech said they fixed the same noise in a Tacoma a few days earlier, they insulated the airbox and it seemed to have resolved it - will update if it hasn't been resolved. happened @ Northridge Toyota in SoCal

This is the culprit on my rig, only rattles when cold, as soon as vehicle warms up, rattle goes away

Thank you for posting. I also thought the sound was a heat shield , after checking them, it is coming from the engine internally. I am starting to make progress with Toyota and should have some answers within the next couple weeks.

Did your noise sound like this? IMO I don't think this is a heat shield.

yea sounds exactly the same. i'ts hard to establish the origin of the noise. great work on hunting down the culprit though!

this is 100% the noise. no idea of the source either, but definitely not heat shields. either stupidly noisy injectors or something with engine internals. it's an embarrassing sound leaving for work in the mornings when the engine is cold, sounds like my old jeep cherokee 4.0l I6 when it had lifter noise before that engine failed...

So strange just noticed that my 2025 1958 does the same, but like you all said seems to go away once warmed up and also won't do it when it's in park and I rev the engine. Only time i hear it is with my windows down and when im driving at lower speeds.

I'm going to follow the post for more info and also bring it up to the dealer when I go in for service.

I saw another video on YouTube stating its the hybrid coupler.

Please post the video if possible.

I am disappointed to hear this is happening on a 2025 as well. Keep us updated.

It is difficult to reproduce in park and generally the engine must be under load.
Read the comment below and the OG poster commented saying "@ no fix it’s just how the new transmission sounds with the hybrid coupler when it’s cold. Once warmed up, no more rattle."

I could believe this simply because the unibody vehicles with this engine don’t make this noise.
