Has anyone put the 12.3" Land Cruiser touchscreen head unit into a 1958?

I'm wondering if anyone has tried to modify a 1958 by removing the "8-in. Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen" and replacing it with a "12.3-in. Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen"?

Theoretically, it's the same dashboard and the same CAN bus, so I wonder how feasible a swap would be?

I've installed 12.3 Chinese Android based head unit from Aliexpress on mine (base trim GCC spec 2.8 diesel) and I like so far.

I wanna see this! The stock 8” is a shame. Toyota should’ve left the 12” all around. The cluster could’ve stayed on the smaller scale but the infortainment system deserved better

Agreed. This isn’t a $30k RAV4, it’s a 57k Land Rover. This is one area where Toyota should be ashamed. How much do you think the parts cost is for a 12” touchscreen in Japan? $25?

These guys did it overseas. The video is in Spanish, but you can see they had a base model (TX) Prado, and upgraded the interior, which includes the infotainment. So, I really hope someone can try to do the same here in the US.

It's an android 14 based unit and it's highly configurable. AC controls are displayed as well as parking sensors when in reverse and steering wheel buttons work. Not sure if it's linked to the car's native mic or if it's relaying on the mic built-in .

Awesome man, how did you go about the wiring? Is it as basic as the older model vehicles or is it new & fancy? Did you have to use one of the Maestro link kits to retain your steer wheel controls functional? Or was it plug n play? Also, is it a button on the screen or the side of the screen for the volume knob? Is it possible to get a video on it? Very interested but I’m not sure on dropping 800 on the head unit alone

Anything can be done...... it's a matter of how much you want to spend. Unless you can get your hands on a salvage vehicle, I think it would be cost prohibitive for OEM parts.

It's mostly plug n play and the interior isn't hard to dismantle as it's mostly held by clips.
They have two versions I believe, one with the side screen buttons and one without, the one I got is without the screen buttons. For volume control I just use the steering wheel controls .

Did you guys know the 1958 had an 8” screen or did you purchase site unseen? Do you realize you don’t have MTS or Stabilizer disconnect?
