Driving start control malfunction

2024 landcruiser 5200 miles in, no issues. Oil changed at Pep Boys and when I got it back, I got the driving start control malfunction alert and car makes weird sound when I try to go above 40mph. Pep boys was closing so Im bringing it back tmrw but they dont thnk it had anything to do with the oil change...

anyone else have a similar issue? how should I proceed from here

Keep all your receipts. Because if Pep boys caused it, Toyota will not touch it.

I wouldn’t trust PEP Boys to check the air pressure in my tires.

I do wonder why you’d have a Pep Boys do the first oil change when you had a free one coming from Toyota. Whether Pep Boys thinks it had anything to do with the oil change is less relevant than whether Toyota does.

But AFAIK having an oil change done by a third party doesn’t void your warranty, so take it in and see what they find. To Toyota that is, Pep Boys won’t help you.

It will void the warranty if they damaged something or used wrong fluids etc.

True but not what I meant. Toyota won’t refuse warranty coverage simply because someone other than they did the oil change. If they were able to prove that Pep Boys damaged the vehicle, they might refuse to cover it but the OP would then have leverage against Pep Boys.

IIRC, it's actually illegal for Toyota to void the warranty SOLELY for having it serviced somewhere else...but that probably does raise flags and prompt them to find any other reason to void the warranty, such as not using all of the recommended parts/fluids/etc.

But yeah, I'd definitely recommend just using Toyota until at least the complementary service period is up, and/or until the warranty has expired....so if a problem does arise, there's no doubt that the responsibility is solely on them.
