Used a trim removal tool to pop cap off, and the new one just snaps right in. The diameter of the metal ring inside the original cap is a little smaller than the replacement cap, so it can’t be effectively reused

so to clarify, did you not include the metal ring from the original OEM cap?

Correct. The diameter of the metal keeper ring is about 1/16” smaller than the inner of the new caps; it doesn’t snap tightly in place like it does on the original. That said, the new caps fit very securely with an audible, reassuring ‘snap’ sound when it seats

Where did you find the caps for sale? I have been looking but can’t find them (at a reasonable price).
I found it, but not at a reasonable price from a US seller on eBay. Looks like a dealer’s account and it appears out of stock at the moment, but I’m sure there’s still lots around.

I had read here some dealers in Canada have this part VIN locked, so that’s why I went eBay

I ordered mine from my local Toyota dealer.. they showed up in less than a week. Here's the part number: PT280-35221-5F

Edited to add: this is the part number for the caps with the bronze lettering.

Are those the ones with the bronze lettering and trim for the Tacoma Trail Hunter? I think it’s an important distinction to make as some people will prefer one color over the other

Mine are just black with silver lettering (part: PT998-35221-3S) and I believe are for the 1794 Tundra

I used a suction to pull mines out and the black/bronze ones popped right in on 20” stock wheels.

Sorry, good point. PT280-35221-5F are the caps with the bronze lettering. They were ~ $25 each if I remember correctly.

Thanks for everyone’s help.

I was able to order them online from a local dealership for 22CAD each (free local pickup). They weren’t VIN locked (or at least I wasn’t asked) and they were available for pickup the next day.

Good to hear! What province?

That’s the color I’d go with for trail dust as well

Did it today, very easy with a plastic trim tool removal. Thank you to all who gave tips!
