Landcruiser
Hey everyone! My wife just purchased a new 2025 Landcruiser, the car drives great...however today, when making a tight turn with parking, it was almost as if the car was automatically braking. This isn't something I noticed for the first couple of days of owning the vehicle. It also feels this way in reverse. After playing with some of the settings (VSC, etc), it almost feels as if it is getting worse, so I'm not exactly sure what is going on. Apologies if this is vague, but if there is something simple in the settings, I'd love to figure it out before having to take it back up to the dealership. Thanks for anyone who reads!

Sounds like nannies intervening. And warnings from the dash?

One of the safety features is called PDA proactive driver assist. It will automatically brake for you amomg other things and feel like heavy engine braking approaching a stop sign. The icon looks like a car with three circles around it. I turned it off completely and it put a stop to that automatic breaking. Maybe play with it i believe the setting has different sensitivities.

Make sure your center differential is not engaged, same symptoms. Happened on my wife's LC. She swears she didn't touch the switch.

Same for me today, driving into parking spot, truck acted like auto braking. Nothing was around me. Center Differential indicator was on with a red flashing lock.
I swear I didn’t accidentally button press, but now I doubt myself. Button press did nothing and I was able to gas the engine to overcome the “braking” and drive and park. Car off/on didn’t resolve it. Has to go to work and found this thread.
Will know what’s what when i get out and start her up again.

The center lock would not turn off when pressing the button repeatedly. I switched from park to drive and reverse while pressing the center lock button and ultimately is disengaged.

Sadly, came out to the Rig while working and started her up. I felt like if you wait long enough, it will fix itself. Center diff locker indicator was still on, flashing with a red lock sign. Tried the diff lock button, nothing. Went into 4L and button pushed again, nothing. Back and forth with button pushing.
I will admit my time to take her out, off road, was coming but not yet. Still just a grocery getter. Breaking her in, kindly.
I’m yet to review that section of the owner’s manual, but I haven’t tried to engage the lockers or 4L.
Back in 4H, tried reverse and backed out straight, no problem. Back in drive, forward and felt the resistance to gassing it. Heart drop, called Toyota Roadside.
Flat bed towed to dealer. I will admit that I have a bike rack out back and have used the brake assist disable button to overcome the auto braking. She still screams in defiance when in reverse. My daughter blames the bike rack as confusing the system and glitching the Rig. Details to follow.
I truly hope it’s user error and I will admit if it is. Thanks, Friends.

Update: Toyota service rep says they recognized the same problem of the center differential lock indicator flashing and disconnected/reconnected the actuator and drove it again. The problem returned and they involved Toyota corporate. The diagnosis is a “faulty center differential lock actuator” and due to the newness of the vehicle and the mileage of 424, Toyota will be following the repair. I’m a patient guy and will wait to see how this goes and see if i can get a rental. The new owner anxiety level is rising. I really like this vehicle, sporty all wheel drive feel i used to get from all the previous Subarus I’ve owned. We will see.

Hi Everybody, I am a week into my LC issue. The dealer and a corporate technician have diagnosed a “faulty center differential actuator.” The actuator was self activating and causing a sluggish throttle response and self braking feel. Because of the newness of the vehicle, parts are two to three weeks out. I’ve seen other forum members file different complaints on the NHTSA and I will be also.
I’m patient and will let my warranty cover this. When I get her back I will be using and checking the full 4WD systems before I actually need it. If I’m unhappy with how this is going I will invoke my full wrath and ask for a new one. I really like this truck and I hope I’m only an outlier with this issue. I’ll continue updates. I hope everyone enjoys their LCs. Safe and happy journeys.

Correction: per the selling dealer, issue is a “faulty transfer case actuator”. NHTSA complaint has been filed. Happy Wheeling!

Update: I got my LC back yesterday. Dealer had an expedited spare part replacement by Toyota corporate, I was originally told parts were three weeks out. The transfer case actuator was replaced. Drove with my service rep and center diff locker was activated in 4L. All working to spec.
So far so good. I love this vehicle. Updates to follow if anything else goes wrong.
