Beer of the Day Thread

How is it? Been wanting to try it but haven’t found it yet. haha beer flavored beer isn’t exactly a given nowadays for sure!
I picked it up in Warroad, MN yesterday. Tastes like a typical light beer, not bad. I had never heard of it and got it as a novelty.

Ska Euphoria. Their best beer imo.

My favorite IPA at the moment. Most IPAs annoy me simply because I go into stores and there are too many IPAs to the exclusion of anything else. But this one is ok.

Tonight’s selection is one I haven’t tried before. It’s actually pretty good, but then I like the juicy IPAs. It’s definitely not beer flavored beer. But perfect for a nice summer (ok it was 53 today so at least I got to walk the dog with just a hoodie) day. It’s also 5.8% so just a little extra to help kill the pain of leg day.

I also have a thing for buying odd weird vintage glassware. The pattern on this one is Noritake Spotlight. Very 70s, I can’t figure out if it’s supposed to look modern or Spanish revival or just plain different. I have these 12oz ones & a set of smaller 8oz. So now I have to look through this thread before posting again not only to see which beer I had but which glass I used. Thankfully I’ll cycle through the glasses fairly shortly. The beers though however, there are 40-50 breweries in the city depending on which article I read, so I don’t anticipate running out any time soon.

I had Guinness chocolate devils food cake last night.
Honestly not worth the effort, but it's the thought that counts.
Yes, it's a thing, i had no idea.

I am making a black porter today. Milled the grain yesterday. I have a red ale I made in the keg currently.

You’re a home brewing guy? I never learned & always said I’d try it someday.

Yes. I like to make a batch every few months. Finished my black porter on Sunday. It will be ready in a month to put in a keg after the alcohol forms from fermentation. I have a kegerator in my back yard.

Tonight’s midweek (surely tomorrow is Friday right?!?) selection. Another Analog, I guess I bought enough of theirs last time. As you might guess from the name it’s a session IPA. I enjoy an IPA, this one’s pretty good! Or at least doesn’t taste like it came from a vat of pinecones boiled down.

The glassware I have no idea on. The barware facebook group I don’t recall even came up with any definitive answer as to what it is. Standard beer mug shape, kinda Hazel Atlas, but with some of the Anchor Hocking type textured patterns they had then. No markings that I could tell.

Tonight’s is one of my favorite raspberry ales! Not that it’s so much better than anybody else’s, and who doesn’t do a raspberry ale nowadays, but that it’s an original. This place was cranking out craft beer when nobody knew what that was & has had a restaurant/pub in our community mall since I was old enough to go enjoy one.

To this day it remains a great neighborhood gathering spot, it’s tough to go on a Friday night & not run into at least one other person I know. If you order it in the restaurant, they’ll add frozen raspberries to it as well, which as delicious as that is, it isn’t something I tried to recreate at home.

Years ago someone gave us this bottle cap map. I think it took us three years to fill in? Each cap is a different California brewery. It became challenging to finish because lots of breweries switched to cans only.

That's awesome. I'm from The Bay too. By far Pliny is my favorite brewski. Glad to see Russian River on the map.

Always wanted to, but given my complete and utter lack of self control, I'd weigh 260 as home brewer. Love a good porter!

Two favorites in SoCal. Monkish is located in Torrance and Anaheim. Best IPA's I've had, hands down. Vanilla Foggier Window and Waterballoon Fight Club are top notch, but pretty much everything they do is exceptional. Focus is on Belgian Style IPA's (hence, Monkish).

Other favorite is Docent in San Juan Capistrano. Wonderful stouts. They do one called Great Gandpappy that's done in bourbon barrels for 12-18 months. 12-13 percenter. As good as any stout I've had.
