You might get more bite and slightly quicker stopping by using a different brake pad compound. High performance pads, such as those used on track cars, do tend to be very noisy, so choose carefully. If the goal is to avoid brake overheating on long downhills, then it would probably be good to change the brake fluid to a higher boiling point variety. You would also want to change the fluid on a more frequent basis to avoid moisture buildup (brake fluid is hygroscopic) that would cause boiling and brake fade.
