Anyone done oil change on LC/LC without using ramps?

Im thinking of doing 1st oil change without using ramps, but it looks a little tight because of skid plates. Does removing skid plates get you a lot more room to move around under there?

You'll need to remove the front skid to get to the oil filter. Once it's removed you'll have enough room to reach for and remove the filter.

Would recommend a ramp on the driver side as It'll be easier to resemble the skid afterwards. I'll be doing that for my next oil change.

Getting the skids on and off without is probably the hardest part. At least on the FE I cannot see doing it comfortably.

If you have the storage space, I would just get a pair of ramps. Will make your life a lot easier, especially if you plan on doing oil changes in the future.

I have some metal ramps that I haven't used in years. But all my recent vehicles I could change oil without ramps. Everyone said it's a pain to put back skids so I may have to pull out my ramps.

I did it no problem but I’m not overweight like 160 lbs. skid plate is a little heavy and cumbersome but no big deal and that was the first time. The main thing is the oil filter is right there so it’s no issue at all. Did not use a creeper. Definitely easier than my new F150 which I also do without ramps.
It’s fast and safe whole job start to finish with clean-up in under 1 hour.
BTW I don’t trust the plastic ramps they break for sure.

I have a LC/LC so the skid plates should be easier to handle under there. I think the FE skid is a longer one piece and heavier.

Just go buy some ramps. Life is just better this way.

I’ve been using a set of plastic ramps for about 18 years now. No problems.

For the first change, I wanted to use ramps so I could scoot further in and figure out what's what. Now that I'm oriented, I wouldn't mind skipping the ramps.

I don’t use ramps. Once you get the skid plates off there is plenty of room.

Yep.

Over two decades of regular weight training = my chest and back don’t fit comfortably under the LC or my long suffering Tundra with enough room to work freely.

A set of Rhino Ramps that I’ve had for at least 18 years makes a big difference and they’re easy to use. When that isn’t enough a 3 ton floor jack and 4 jack stands are also on hand.

I wish I had a garage large enough for a lift. Someday.
