Adding/removing roof rails

Probably not much as the barrel of the bolt pass-thru is raised above the surface and the strip appears to be sitting flush with the top of the barrel. I assume the bolts pass from the interior into the Rack/rail/strip.

I think I might add a super small bead of silicone on top of the barrel before I installed the bolts. small amount couldn't, while a large bead might result in a semi-permanent bolt install.

Can the rubber be installed directly on top of the bolt holes? Maybe that would be enough?

Any 1958 owners want to pull their rubber strip off to see what the mount holes look like?

For the 4Runner, you can buy a full roof rack delete kit that comes with the covers, bolts and some sort of bracket. I dont think you would want to leave the holes open, as they go directly inthe vehicle.

Here’s a picture of mine, the 1958’s come with the delete kit installed
Awesome! 👏

If any 1958 owners end up adding roof rails and want to unload their extra parts, drop me a note. :)

Anyone know the height of the Land Cruiser Mid-trim with roof rails? is the 76.1 inch height on the website without roof rails?

I am also interested in buying roof rails off of someone. I am willing to provide the delete kit off my 1958 as part of the deal.

I'd be interested in buying the delete kit. As of now the dealer parts department stated he had to order the parts from Canada, makes no sense to me but that's what he said.

Is there a part number for the roof rails? I can easily find the crossbars...but not the rails themselves.

Do you know the part numbers for the delete kit? I plan to remove the rails and install the FE style roof rack. I assume that I'd need the bolts and plastic caps for the font holes, but the roof rack will surely mount to the more rear mounting points.

Sadly, I do not. I reached out to my salesman with the picture that someone posted that had the plastic covers, from there he got his parts dept to research....... and placed on order, as he called it "the delete kit" not sure if that was just the parts or actual kit. He said all the part numbers were the same for L/H (4ea) or R/H (4ea)

I also think you might not need anything other than the two front covers..

(edit) I also don't know how many point the rails attach to.

You would need the shorter bolts, bracket and the cover. The top cover clips into the bracket shown a few posts above.

I kept swapping the racks on my ‘10 4Runner trail to newer ones in the fleet when I inherited them. That rack was the best imo from factory. It looked better and was a couple inches higher for my canoe. Anyway, I always put 100% silicone bead around the circumference of those plastic tubes. You don’t want a leak in your roof. Tighten one bolt a little, then tighten the other, keep going back and forth until both are tight.

Anyone know if you have a 1958 how you can buy the roof rails? I only see the roof rack available on the Toyota accessories list. Really don't want to spend $1400 on the whole rack when i just need the rails.

I'll have some for sale (along with the cross bars) in about 3-4 weeks, when my LC Trim w/ PP arrives as I'm installing the factory roof rack to replace them.
I'm sure you can buy the roof rails from a dealer parts department. Although when you search, the cross bars always come up and it seems a bit harder to find the part number for the rails themselves.

The $1400 First Edition style rack replaces any roof rails that might be installed and bolts directly into the roof mounting points.

I would like to reserve 1st refusal.
