2024 or 2025 Model Year?

I am about ready to purchase. If I can find a good deal on a 2024, should I buy that, or should I just look into 25s?

My real question is, have they fixed some of the small issues that have come up on the 24s, or are the only differences between the 24s and 25s the small changes Toyota announced in their press release?

No issues on the 24…you should be getting 3-5k off of the 24 which is why I say do that.

If you can find a discounted 2024 go for it. Wish I could have found a discount, but inventory in my area is super tight. I was lucky to call and get one on short notice, took delivery yesterday afternoon.

Otherwise wait for the 2025’s and get the rear cargo lights.

Agreed, no issues on the '24 which come to mind, and no changes to mention in '25. However, you will own a year older vehicle, depending on how long you anticipate keeping it before selling or trading in.

What "small issues" are we talking about here? Because I can't think of one that warrants waiting months and paying more. Unless those trunk lights are really a must-have for you. And if you're in the market for an FE, then even this argument is moot.

There’s the brake squeal; mine only lasted 1000 miles though. Went away (so far) after reaching around 5k.

Model year changes are typically not publicized, unless an actual feature. An example would be module firmware. Some owners have been reporting squealing brakes, etc. Over on the sibling GX550 site some owners have encountered a vibrating hood. Such things would be typically solved with the new MY, but not worthy of a general recall/TSB.

Back tailgate lights + 500 more from what I have read. If it was me I’d search out a 24 model. Honestly I haven’t encountered any issues on my ‘24 58 edition knock on wood. I’m roughly 3000 miles in and having a blast with this buggy!

Just noticed the liftgaye lights are now a $195 option on the Toyota build configuration. So $500 + $195.

What is probably more important is finding a vehicle with no dealer markup or a clean configuration without questionable "port installed accessories". Combined, that could save you several thousand dollars.

No more First Edition after 2024, so if you prefer the round headlights the only option in 2025 is the 1958 model- or getting the kit to replace the rectangular headlights on the premium trim.

Ive got this. Asked the service guy about it and he said it was the overnight condensate causing rust on the disc/pads first thing in the morning. Probably some truth to this because after the first burn off, i dont hear it the rest of the day. Not a major thing but annoying since virtually no other car I know of does this.

I just cannot believe that.. Another dealer said that it was due to some alignment issue in the brakes, per an inmate on here.

The squeaky brakes are the result of no longer using asbestos for the brake pads. Every new vehicle I have purchased over the last 20 or so years have had brake squeak from time to time--particularly when cold/have condensation. Very common and disappears after a few miles with normal driving.

Anything ceramic-esque, which is probably 99% of brake pads in the last 5 years, will have a squeak in certain scenarios. As pointed out it goes away after the brakes warm up even a little bit.

Re: Brake “alignment” issues per the dealer. That’s bullshit. Floating caliper designs are extremely simple, aka there’s very little that a dealer tech would have caught that the Takumi in Japan didn't. A money grab for dealer hours, to be honest.

Edit: Took a closer look and it appears to be a fixed-caliper design. Even more convinced that it's the material and not sort of any installation mistake by the factory.
