    No roof rack.

This is what is stock on a non roof rail 1958. I used simple sealing washers and silicon when I installed my towers. You will note the white plastic tubes that stand proud of the roof gutter. I had to slightly enlarge the sealing washer hole to fit over them, hence a little silicone as well...

    No roof rack.

I have a packasport box that I was intending to use but the rear spoiler makes rear access pretty much impossible due to the reach over. I also added Greenlane Offroad flared side steps replacing the factory running boards for better roof box access. All we need now is more snow.

    No roof rack.

I ended up with 57” (1450mm) which is a little wider than the gutter. I used the two middle mounting points not the most rearward.

I was lucky I guess as I visited a dealer that had exactly what I wanted in the lot due to a cancelation. Before I went to the dealers I did look online and there were a number of non Calgary dealers that were offering at MSRP. I went to the largest south Calgary dealer with the tower and...

    Greenlane Offroad

Can confirm - very happy with their aluminum side steps. They were very efficient in manufacture and shipping and even accommodated a late change

    Heating block

There are two things that happen when it’s cold. 1) fluids thicken requiring more battery power to crank the engine 2) useable battery power is reduced. Traditionally plugging a car in meant the block heater heated the oil pan and allowed the oil to flow on the cold start. 0w oil has pretty...

    Rust Inhibitors

I used fluid film for the first time. Was impressed with it. Was also impressed with the level of rust proofing on the vehicle body. I focused my attention on the frame and undercarriage and expect it to be an annual activity. Krown is similar to the lanolin fluid film pb shield and wool wax...

    Greenlane rock sliders

I installed mine today. It is a very well made product: well packaged, all hardware, very good finish, excellent welds. They are a better step than the factory running boards and pretty beefy. They have been well designed and provide good rocker protection and some side impact...

    Winterize Land Cruiser

I gotta say, the only time I have seen chains used in Canada are on logging trucks, or oilfield equipment. I have always been confused by the American use of them on private vehicles, but I guess if you live in a climate where winter tires make no sense (west coast) and you go to elevation to...

    Winterize Land Cruiser

I ran my sprinter one winter on Toyo Open Country. Acceptable - good traction but not the best on ice. It now goes onto studded nokians once the snow arrives. The first thing we bought for our Land Cruiser was a set of blizzaks they go on Oct 28 and will be on till the end of April. An LC...

Ghost Lake Recreation Area, Alberta Canada!

I know that water crossing (I think) - opens up a lot of country. Of course much of that country is bear country! Nice photos - Good looking truck!

    Land Cruisers are easily stolen.

When we insured ours recently, it was relatively expensive versus our other vehicles and the insurer gave the excuse that it was because it was higher theft risk. I assumed that was just a Toronto excuse. Sorry for your loss. Hope it was well insured

    18’’ or 20’’ for winter?

I am putting blizzaks DM-V2 on mine of red winter as well. Somewhat ironically X-ice on another car. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the top tier brands. I have also been very happy with continentals on a number of cars and have nokian studs on our van. I went with studs on...

    MOTHERS BACK TO BLACK

I use both - they seem to work differently. I think of 303 as a protectant and BtoB as a dressing.

Josh’s Cars of Japan - Land Cruiser Review

We bought a 1958. Have had it two weeks and put on a little over a 1000 miles. First Toyota. The LC fitted our requirements perfectly. A capable rugged reliable vehicle that is as at home on a highway as it is on a forestry road. The video that convinced me was “The car care nut” review...

Oil and Filter Change, easy peasy.

After completing my ~1,000 mile break in oil and filter change, I wanted to add something that I didn't find in the thread. I used vacuum extraction and got about 5.3 litres out of the engine. There was an additional 200ml in the filter and say 2-400ml in the pan when I opened the drain bolt...

Does anyone actually get the posted 22/24 mpg?

We are getting rather good mileage in our 1958 trim. Driving has been mixed highway and forestry roads in the foothills with a Little bit of city. Total average has been steadily improving be as we are about to roll over the first 1000 miles. It is currently 10.1 lph which is 23.25 mpg. On...

The only thing I would say is the sound

I think it's funny comparing Porsche engine noise to a Land Cruiser. I was shocked that so many reviews mention the engine sound negatively - its a Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid. You can't coal roll a prius in it either! Having said that, there are times it sounds ...a bit... ahhh...

Oil and Filter Change, easy peasy.

My understanding is that techron is basically a detergent additive, which if you are using premium at top brand gas stations you are already running a fairly high detergent gasoline. Also I believe this is a dual injector engine (I think I heard that) where the second injector is basically...

    NHTSA report a problem

I had a Cayman that was like that. Usual warranty remedies were applied by the dealer. First visit clean and lube. Second visit changed the pads. Third visit they measured everything for angles and clearance found it in spec but then changed everything, " as a courtesy" and indicated they...

    First offroad, el. 13,124’ [Summit County, CO] - Compare/Contrast 5th Gen 4Runner

We used the DAC a fair amount over the weekend. I found it effective and easy to adjust speed with the dash knob. I turned it off on a long steep downhill when I started to smell the brakes, and manually down shifted from 3 to 2 to 1. I don't have an opinion on how effective the engine...

    Savagegeese LC review is out

It seemed they really wanted to not like it - the cynical skeptics is their brand! To be fair, they could have been much more critical of the handling given their typical auto choices. I was impressed that they called it the best handling and refined Toyota truck they have driven, and their...

Wireless phone charger for 1958 trim?

I simply used double sided tape and a mag charger disc for our iPhones. It's working very well. No mat required.
