Anyone compare the LC to the Tundra?

I’m looking at the bigger Toyotas because I’m in the home projects / camping / bike hauling / light-medium towing needs; the off roading tech of the LC is very cool but unlikely something I would ever utilize much. I do much appreciate the full time 4wd

On the flip side the Tundra Platinum hybrid just seems like a lot more (for my purposes) for the same money. Not a big difference in fuel economy and the Tundra sips 87. Tundra has the panoramic moonroof that I grew to love in my prior car. The folding tonneau probably gives me all of the dry storage I could need for camping etc. The truck bed is probably a better home for a Yeti cooler than in the LC atop the hybrid battery. I’m convincing myself, but appreciate the honest feedback here from folks that are more familiar with both vehicles and in some cases have ownership experience with both.
Sounds like the tundra is a great fit.

I’d say the only other thing to consider is daily driving a truck vs suv. I personally think the LC drives better than any of the trucks I test drove in terms of handling and being nimble.

I commute 150 miles a week to downtown San Diego so the comfort and ease of driving the suv was a big factor to me. Also not sure what tech the tundra has but the self driving tech of the LC is amazing and something I use when on freeway and in traffic.

The size is the biggest thing holding me back from a Tundra. The trails around here are too narrow. Full size trucks get torn to hell on them. Pin striping isn’t for me!

I decided to get the Tundra (Platinum hybrid). Time will tell if that’s the right decision for me or not; the good news is you can always change your mind, the bad news is that doing so is expensive 😅
If you change your mind, my guess is that the Land Cruiser will improve over next few years.

I love my tundra and haven’t taken it on any tighter off road trails for this reason. It’s great to get out to campsites but I wouldn’t take it off roading properly like I used to do in my 4Runner and Tacoma. Hoping I can get back to it in the Land Cruiser once my son is old enough

I look at it as the lc is made in Japan, many of them coming from the Tahara plant, especially mine. Whereas the tundra probably made in Mexico, Canada, or even worse USA made by union workers.

I belong to the oldest labor union in the United States, why would you assume myself or my colleagues set out to do a subpar job? I can assure you that is not the case, the company I work for sets the tone of how they want to do business not me.

I did evaluate the trd pro sequoia and tundra. However, they’re too long to park in my little garage. As they say “too bookoo” 😝

Well then you know how it goes.

UAW can’t force automakers to allocate more $$$ at a given price point for more durable hardware over gimmicks and bullshit. The Big 3 sell gimmicks and bullshit that falls apart in 5-6 years, that’s their thing.

I’m BLE-T by the way, unfortunately these days Class 1 RR’s are incredibly toxic places to work. The culture of our management is horrid, it’s so bad even senior level managers at division level are pissed off with all the bullshit.

I have been cross shopping a tundra and LC. My LC will be here in the next couple weeks, and I went with that because I wanted more interior cargo space, full time 4x4 for the snow months, and a decent off-roader. Barring some unforeseen issue when I test drive the LC that is a deal breaker I'll be sticking with the LC. You can for sure get more bang for your buck right now. Crew cab 4x4 platinums with the Hybrid are discounted to the low to mid 60s in my area (my LC premium with 20s is a hair under 70k) and I bet you could negotiate a bit more off the tundra with the issues they are experiencing right now. Those deals are still tempting but I really like the idea of having an SUV with full time 4x4 and off-road capabilities again. Like most things, you gotta determine what priorities take precedence.

100% agree. Wish you nothing but the best with the new LC!

I really wanted to like the new Tundra but no full time 4X4 is a big swing and miss for me. Plus the visibility and general packaging of the Tundra options wise is garbage. Toyota screwed it up.

Picked her up tonight.

Everyone, I am going from my fourth Toyota tundra, trading in my tundra, capstone hybrid for a 24 LC, windshield, Pearl, premium package, etc., etc.

Quick background first 2015, Traded for an 18 1794. Which was totaled hit by a Dodge 1500 at 60+ miles an hour and a 25 mile an hour zone legally parked on the street totaled, in the midst of Covid unbelievably able to get a new 2020 1794 I traded for a 2022 capstone, which was happenstance.

The capstone is great gets 18 to 20 miles to the gallon and the 7500 pound vehicle give or take..

Simple reason first I always wanted to land cruiser on the Toyota guy since the 80s started with a 1987 4Runner..

Maybe you do get more for the money on a tundra I’m not certain, but the other big reason is what one of the other gentleman stated, just tired of this gigantic truck that I don’t use the bed for or anything. It’s just a big big truck.

My LC is in port going on the carrier middle to the end of the week and I should have it straight by the middle of August with my dealer. I guess they’re compromises and everything and I also concur with the other gentleman who posted the gigantic console, yes, it’s huge. Which has its advantages and disadvantages, especially the gun safe, which I keep it is a big flashlight

Loving the Tundra so far. Have used the bed over and over already. Hauled some new plants for the yard yesterday. And a gas can; always hated putting those inside a car. Quite nice to have a truck again.
